Interviews: Signs Preyer
Welcome to this interview with Signs Preyer, a heavy-hitting metal band hailing from Italy. With a sound that blends elements of stoner, groove, and southern metal, they've been making waves in the underground scene. For more updates on the band, check out their Facebook page.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The name came out during a holiday in 2005, our band was momentarily called “Three Toed Sloth”. We were so drunk one day that we stole a road sign and so we said: “Hey let’s call ourselves Road Signs Predators!”. We were thrilled at that moment but once the alcohol wore off we changed our minds hahaha. We wanted a name with a deeper meaning that could represent our complexity. And so, after another bust, Andrea thought about the archaic term “preyer”, the hunter, and so we became Signs Preyer, the Hunters of signs, those signs that the universe undauntedly sends us and that we, as simple human beings, always fail to notice.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
It wasn’t a choice. It came up very naturally and it also changed a lot over time. We have multiple influences being all great listeners. It was simply what represented us the most in the songwriting process.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
I (Corrado) knew the other 2 members before the band was formed, Andrea and Giacomo still didn’t know each other instead. I met Andrea in middle school and Giacomo in high school. A fraternal union was born since the very first day of rehearsals, Sings Preyer is like a family. In 2025 we will be a band for 20 years without introducing new members, this is who we are and will always be.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
This is a very hard question hahaha. As I said before we all are music lovers so it’s not easy to choose, but we’ll try with a little bit of effort: Queen for Andrea, Led Zeppelin for Giacomo, and Black Sabbath for Corrado.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Life, emotions, thoughts, desire to experience, to be together. The strongly need to express ourselves with music, our main language.
6. Where was your last gig?
I don’t know when this interview will be published, as of now (21st March 2023) our last gig was in Marta along with “Gorilla Pulp” at the Nomad. Our next concert will be in April together with “La Barba della Montagna”, “The Egg” and “Fulci” at the Rework club in Perugia.
7. Where would you like to act?
Anywhere haahahah. We’d love to do an European Tour, then one in the US and another one in Japan.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
It would be great to share the stage or to write a song together with Red Fang, Black Stone Cherry, Black Label Society, Monster Truck, Godsmack and many others. We had the opportunity to play with plenty of international artists such as Corrosion of Conformity, but until now there hasn’t been any opportunity to write a song with them.
9. Whom not?
Hard one. Well, we clearly wouldn’t enjoy writing a song with bands that are too different from us. And we certainly would never work with Fred Durst, we don’t like his attitude towards the music biz. So yea, he may be the only person we’d reject. Then who knows, maybe he is a good person, never say never, but we are surely not keen on his public image.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Mmm not really. A bit of anxiety sometimes but we managed to convert it into energy and fun! Go with the flow guys. If you keep thinking about the mistake, about what could go wrong, about the way the public will look at you then you won’t go anywhere. Since you’ll be playing on that stage any way you might as well have fun on it right? You’ll manage to turn these emotions into positivity, little by little, gig after gig.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
We can’t say who inspired us the most, there are too many of them, too many. We’d be writing forever hahaha.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
During a tour in Croatia a girl followed us to the truck cause she couldn’t afford the T-shirt or the cd. She then tried to trade them for a ticket to a Snoop Dog concert in London hahaha. In the end, we decided to give her both of them for free.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They’re absolutely the best. They are part of our community. We try in every way to be with them and spend time together. They give us the right boost. Some of them, like Xhanfranko, Orazio, and Fabio, has become now part of the crew with their official nicknames hahaha. They were there at every single concert. Our fans are wonderful.
14. What do you think of our site?
What you are doing is very helpful for bands and artists. Giving space to bands with potential is key so that people won’t get stuck over and over in the top charts artists.
15. Something to add?
We would like to invite everyone to follow us on our social networks. It’s just a click for you but it’s an extra chance to share our music with the world for us.
