Interviews About Albums: Hostile Array - Trauma (2023)
In this new interview, we sat down with the American Metalcore/Post-Hardcore band Hostile Array to ask some questions about their new album "Trauma".
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
I would describe it as a collection of emotionally charged alternative post-hardcore songs that focus on pain, loss, and recovery.
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
We chose “Trauma” because each song highlights the struggle of recovering from traumatic experiences, no matter what that might be.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
All 5 of us play some part in the writing process. Most of these songs started with Garrison (guitar) and myself demoing songs to set the foundation and then bringing the other 3 into the process after we have a solid idea. Our producers Chris Davis, Andrew Simmons, and Nick Sadler also play a huge role in our writing process, helping us fully actualize our ideas.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
I think each song on this EP has its own unique strengths, but Wounds I feel really is the most representative of our sound.
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?
Every song addresses some sort of trauma, how it affects mental health, and what it's like to process those feelings.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
“If time heals wounds, then why am I still bleeding” Wounds is one of the lyrics that means the most to me. It’s reflective of how trauma can affect you long-term and how difficult it can make just living a normal life.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
We really pulled heavily from a lot of different artists across various genres. I know for me artists, like Bring Me The Horizon, Spiritbox, Nothing Nowhere, and even Blackbear, had some kind of impact on various aspects of the writing process. Really anything I was listening to at the time could have had some type of influence.
8. Something to add?
If you like what we’re doing, make sure to share this EP on social media, add it to your playlist or library for whatever streaming service you use, or engage with us on TikTok or Instagram. Any of these things go further than you realize for any artist.
