Interviews: EGO PLANET
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Rock band, EGO PLANET from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Chris: Since we created this thing in the middle of the pandemic it was somewhat inspired by a lot of nonsense I was reading on social media. A planet is full of ego. And honestly, I thought the two words looked cool next to each other ha!
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Chris: I’ve always loved heavier music. This genre just came naturally to me when I started writing our first batch of instrumentals. I grew up playing a ton of blues and various genres but metal and heavy rock music was something I always had in my roots.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Chris: I’ve been making music with Jarrett and Steve since I was a young teen. When I started working on these demos it was a no-brainer to get my best buds involved.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Jarrett: Pinegrove - I was driving to my parents’ house one night when “Old Friends” came on my Spotify recommendations, and it just perfectly captured the loneliness and sorrow of coming back to the small town I grew up in and feeling disconnected and out of place. It hit me in a way no other piece of music had before. When I looked them up and found out they were also from New Jersey, it just further cemented that connection I felt.
Chris: Judas Priest or The Black Crowes - I’ve been obsessed with both of these bands since I was in middle school. I love the depth and growth of their entire catalog. Every album offers something a bit different with ties to its core sound. Plus they both rule life.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Jarrett: On this record, a lot of anger toward the people in power, and admiration for people out in the street fighting for change.
Chris: For this first album the musical inspiration came from a way of tuning out of the uncertainty of the times we were living in. It became an exercise to pick up the guitar and try to create it every night.
6. Where would you like to act?
Anywhere! We can’t wait to play some shows
7. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Jarrett: I still get uncomfortable in the spotlight, especially performing solo since I only ever played in bands for most of my life. My advice would be to start small. Find a dive bar that has an open mic on a weeknight and sign up when the place is mostly empty. That’s how I built my confidence back up after a long stretch of not performing.
8. What bands have inspired you the most?
Jarrett: As a rock vocalist, I’m always shooting for Ozzy. I usually don’t get anywhere close, but that’s the target!
As mentioned above Judas Priest and The Black Crowes are my top 2 influences. But there’s a lot of influence on the album from Black Sabbath, The Sword, and a huge array of metal / heavy rock bands.
9. What do you think of your fans?
Chris: We are a very new band trying to get these songs out there. But we are beyond grateful for all of the people that have reached out with positive feedback, shared the singles, and have been listening. I’ve interacted with so many awesome people through our social platforms because of these first few songs and that’s insanely cool! We can’t wait to get this whole album out later this year.
10. What do you think of our site?
The site is awesome. Always appreciate people like yourselves that help promote and support up-and-coming bands.
