Interviews: Souls Worn Thin
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Punk Rock band, Souls Worn Thin from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Stephen-the band name comes from lyrics of a song called "Big Empty" by Stone Temple Pilots (too
much trippin and my soul's worn thin). We thought that was a cool line, and named our band as an
awesome way to pay tribute to a band that we grew up listening to.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Stephen-this genre of music is a reflection of my upbringing; an amalgamation of my favorite artists all
rolled into one is what makes Souls Worn Thin music. Plus, it's the most fun type of music to play!
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Stephen-No. Josh joined up with me about a month before the studio and Cody came on board a week or
so prior to recording the Kill Your TV album. We were all in the same local scene, we just hadn't met
each other yet.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Stephen-Aside from Souls Worn Thin? Right now I'm listening to a lot of Rise Against and Pennywise
Josh-Blink-182
Cody-Bad Religion
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Stephen-Life! I write about what I'm seeing or going through, or what I think people are feeling about
situations, but I attempt to inject a little humor into the lyrics. Sometimes someone will say a phrase
during a random conversation that is so powerful, and I'll take that and build a song around it.
Josh-Hearing a song without drums is like a blank canvas to me.
Cody-Playing music with my friends.
6. Where was your last gig?
Stephen-The Funhouse in Seattle, WA, USA
7. Where would you like to act?
Stephen-The Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA, USA
Josh-Climate Pledge Arena, Seattle, WA, USA
Cody-Paramount Theater
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Stephen-We had the opportunity to open for Rise Against last summer and would love to do that again
Josh-Hayley Williams
Cody-Pennywise/NOFX
9. Whom not?
Stephen-As long as the genres mesh well, there's not really anyone we wouldn't do a show with. As long
as they are professional and kick ass!
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Stephen-I definitely did before this band. I got through it by hitting up open mics and relentlessly doing
gigs all the damn time. We were all pretty nervous though when we opened for Rise Against in front of a
sold out show! Once we got on stage, all of that fear went away and we had a great time!
Josh-Don't play for other people, play for yourself.
Cody-Yes, but just show the crowd how much fun you have playing music with your friends.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Stephen-Pennywise, The Offspring, Rise Against, NOFX, Violent Femmes, Blink-182, Nirvana
Cody-Bad Religion, Minutemen, Fugazi, Fitz of Depression
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Stephen-A signed a guitar pick. Do you realize how small those are?
Cody-My phone number
13. What do you think of your fans?
Stephen-We absolutely have the best fans! Some folks drive 6 hours to see our show, and we've even got
a few people driving across the country to support us! How cool is that?
14. What do you think of our site?
Stephen-I like that you have an "Opinions" section, a way to support your efforts, and all of this fantastic
information about so many bands I've never heard about, but definitely want to go check out now!
15. Something to add?
We really appreciate the opportunity to share our music with your fans, and want to remind everyone that
if you're not gigging, go support your local bands, buy that merch and tip your bartender!
