Behind The Tracks: Disconnected Souls - Loveless (Single) (2023)
"Loveless" is a song about incompatibility on a fundamental level. "Love" is a broad term with multiple meanings, and a lot of assumptions come with its use.
The lyrics are from the perspective of someone who does not feel love in a romantic sense, trying to understand a world that values romance very highly. They start off confused, believing they are heartless and unfeeling in a world that demands this "synthetic love" from them, feeling they are locked out from something important. By the end of the song, they conclude that their love is simply different: "I'm not loveless, I just don't love like you."
This song is probably the most personal one I'll ever write; it was born from some conversations with my dear friend and bandmate, Felix, where I realized this part of myself. Some of the lyrics were inspired by a side character in the anime "Bloom into You", who provided me a new perspective on the subject.
Musically, the song is heavily inspired by the heavy electronic metalcore styles of I See Stars, Dead by April, and Void of Vision, with a heavy emphasis on the poppy club/rave-style synths and sequencers. I love the dichotomy of this genre combination, and it worked perfectly for the theme of the song.
