Interviews: THE 6IX GVNG

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rap Metal band, THE 6IX GVNG from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

In 2009 Dylan Kartoon started a group called “Northern Lights Nation” which was often called “NLN”, while looking for other things to call the group they realized that NLN on the phone pad was “656”. When it came time to start the record label it became “6ix5ive6ix Records”. One of the artists signed to the company named HVZE would often call the members of the label “The 6ix”. When We decided to form our group from members of the label it seemed like a fitting homage to NLN & 656 Records to call it “The 6ix” and keep the story going since 2009

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

To combine the genres a lot of the group members grew up on, The 6ix is a blend of Hip Hop, Metal, and today’s popular trap music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Before the official first release by the group, the label 656 Records consisted of various solo artists who are now core founding members of the group.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Dilyrium - Suffocation

Tommie Trichomes - Alexisonfire

Dylan Kartoon - Bone Thugs n’ Harmony

Spacey Jones - Outkast

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The devil.

6. Where was your last gig?

Sold out release party for our “Black Magic & Trap Houses” EP at Morgan Hill Event Center, Hermon, Maine

7. Where would you like to act?

Like performing live? Rolling Loud, Blue Ridge Rock Festival, The Gathering of the Juggalos just to name a few.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Too many to list but here’s a few off the top: $uicideboy$, City Morgue, Tech N9ne, Ghostemane, RITTZ, Yelawolf.

9. Whom not?

How rude

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Experiencing stage fright is normal it's just all about how you handle it. We rehearse 3-4 hours a day when we practice our set. This ensures we are as polished as possible when we step on stage. The better you know the words and where everyone is moving, the more you can focus on engaging with the crowd. We take a lot of pride in a high-energy performance while also not using backing vocal tracks which has become too commonly practiced today in hip hop.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We take inspiration from many types of music, everything from Bone Thugs to Slipknot. We obviously are inspired by a lot of dark trap music as well, but we do reference lots of horror movies, pro wrestling and pop culture events.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Spacey Jones “People always ask to touch my hair…” Dylan Kartoon “A fan insinuated they wanted me to bang their girlfriend.” Tommie Trichomes “A girl in the crowd asked if I wanted her to “pop her pussy”. Whatever that means.” Dilyrium “People who follow me on social media know that I am big in the kitchen. So they ask me to make them food.”

13. What do you think of your fans?

We really have a core group of day ones who have been rocking since the Northern Lights Nation days. It’s great to see that expand and grow over the years. Now we have fans outside of New England we can’t wait to connect with one day. They make everything we have to sacrifice worth every bit.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s a great website. Easy to navigate. We love that you give so much exposure to independent artists like us.

15. Something to add?

Check our most recent project “Black Magic & Trap Houses” available on all streaming services. We will be hitting the road this summer on “The Death Trvp Tour” making stops from the East to the West Coast. To stay up to date on tour info, new music or anything 6ix related go to www.The6ixGvng.com
