Interviews: Polymerase

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Stoner Rock band, Polymerase from the Philippines. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Vincent: First, thanks for this opportunity for an interview. The name was derived from the enzyme polymerase. I encountered it during the discussion on the central dogma in genetics. wherein it is an important enzyme that processes the DNA into RNA and into a functional protein. It just stuck with me and named the band just like the enzyme so we could process our thoughts and emotions into something productive through music.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Vincent: There's something in this genre that... I cannot explain... it just feels right and feels like home to me. Eugene- I was inspired by this type of music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Vincent: Yes. Allan was a previous bandmate in a defunct band we had. Eugene is a bandmate in another non-doom band.

Eugene: Yes.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Vincent: It is actually a hard question because my favorite band depends on what kind of mood I'm currently having... but probably now, that would be OM. Eugene- Metallica.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Vincent: This is another hard question... hahaha! probably the bands that I've been listening to, other bands that we've played with... and maybe life in general... and weed... maybe... hahaha

Eugene: Life experiences.

6. Where was your last gig?

Eugene: Motorista.

Vincent: I don't know if it was at motorista... I guess it was at motorista. hahaha

7. Where would you like to act?

Vincent: hopefully we would be able to go to the US and then Europe... that would be wild! hahaha Eugene-Anywhere.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Vincent: I know this would be a long shot but it would be awesome to be a front act for Sleep... or maybe with SunnO))) but I think that would be too much. I'd have to put up a lot of drones to be able to book a front act with Sunn O))) hahaha! But I think Uncle Acid would be cool!

Eugene: Mastodon.

9. Whom not?

Vincent: I don't know... hmmm probably bands that are assholes and so full of themselves? that would be hard to get along with. I just want to have a great time with bands that we're with... maybe grab some bottles of beer, and smoke a couple of joints...

Eugene: I'm good with anybody.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Vincent: yes! hahaha! maybe just drink some liquid courage before you play... 

Eugene: Yes! breathing exercise and focus on the music... and not mind the audience

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Eugene: Metallica Vincent- Hmmm.. maybe those bands that I've been listening to... and the bands that we've played with and stayed after their set... man, that's awesome!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Vincent: I think I have not yet experienced that kind of weirdness yet... or maybe I'm just too drunk to remember! hahaha! Eugene- My number... wink, wink

13. What do you think of your fans?

Eugene: They're awesome

Vincent: I think most of our fans are our friends! they're cool and awesome!

14. What do you think of our site?

Vincent: They're pretty good! These are the sites we need for the underground community that would help the bands reach their target audience. pretty rad!

Eugene: Agreed
