Interviews: Dark Elite
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal band, Dark Elite from Finland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Well, we did plan it, probably under some minor influence of alcohol. It was me (TH) our vocalist (EK) who but things in motion when the band was formed.
Basically, Dark Elite represents for us a form of state of mind. To understand, realize and see certain aspects of life and the world that surrounds us and through this, you become something else.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Well, the genre and style walk hand in hand with the lyrical world of our songs. With Dark Elite we deal rather dark themes and we wouldn’t like to present those through acoustic music.
Of course, we have always listened to BM/DM music since the beginning on '90s. So, it's natural.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes. Members have been collected from the trusted persons that I know or have known since childhood.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
We don’t do this for each member but if you think about the scene and listen to our music you can find influences from many bands. We wanted to bring our own visions to the art, and I think we have succeeded in our task as we don't directly sound like someone else.
Some names to mention that we enjoy are from the 90s up to this moment. From old Norwegian classics like Emperor etc to the latest modern and brilliant extreme album by cattle decapitation. Also, not to forget influences that are not metal at all.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
What inspires us to write lyrics and songs. Failure of society and the system that society is built on, greed upon greed. A world that is heading face-first into the wall. all levels of mankind’s stupidness let it be weakness on a personal level or believing in mythical texts created by man that are in the end just someone else’s imagination and false realizations.
6. Where was your last gig?
We have never played live. I personally (TH) am not that interested in live shows. I play in one band that has done touring and played loads of live shows, so I have seen enough. I use my free time making art in various formats and in nature. Also, we can add the fact that all members live scattered around Finland. We are not a “traditional” band that goes to the rehearsal room and plays.
7. Where would you like to act?
Well reflecting on the previous question. We have flirted with the idea to play one live show before we die. It will be here in Finland. All that probably matters is that it will be a small and intense venue.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Featured with, well if you mean bands I really don’t care. Everything is fine.
9. Whom not?
I have no “no go” list regarding this subject.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Maybe on the first gig that was abroad. This is of course my personal answer. All members of Dark Elite have played live shows but I can’t answer on their behalf.
My advice is not to give fuck. Do your best. Do not care about the audience. It’s your art. Don’t drink before the show.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
To mention some of my personal
Tenhi, Emperor, Ulver (old and new), Ascension, Schammasch, Dawn, Katatonia, Hexvessel, Icelandic bands like Misthyrning, etc, Manes (new material), Throes of Dawn, Mysticum, Tribulation, Witchz, Akhlys, Solstafir, the Gathering
Just some artist’s that I have been listening lately. The list goes on….
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I have never met and Dark Elite fan. Except for some friends who have asked when is the physical copy of the album coming.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Do we have fans? I personally don’t like the word fan. I would like to have people who have respect and real interest in our music. Well, maybe that is the fan…
14. What do you think of our site?
The design is clear and all the information is well displayed. I see you are covering loads of bands and articles about the bands. I think everyone apricates your work!
Oh, and discovering bands throughout the country is a good idea. I like it, sometimes I search for new bands from a certain country and this kind of functionally covers my need.
(one minus is that maybe your logo should be more “readable” only for the reason that when random folk stumbles upon your site they would time see the site’s name more clearly and thus you will feed them the name of your site more efficiently and random people would remember it and return.)
15. Something to add?
Stay strong and respect those who deserve it.
I have never answered any questions regarding Dark Elite. This was the first ever kind of interview.
