Interviews: Disillusive Play
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock/Progressive Rock/Metal band, Disillusive Play from Greece. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The name of the band was an idea of Jim Knikos (lead guitarist) and Panos Zotos (rhythm guitarist
some years ago). It means that our songs are going to be about problems of everyday life by
dealing with thoughts that reveal the deeper feelings and help us escape from illusions.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
The identity of the Disillusive Play music was chosen by Jim who is the leader of the band and who
started it many years ago. Of course, since we all love hard rock, progressive, and metal music we
joined the band and we made it grow up by adding more parameters to the Disillusive Play
equation! The genre, from the beginning, but still up to now, it comes naturally to us.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
No, the music was the initial connection between us. We managed to end up to the current lineup
after many member changes, but now we are very happy that after all these difficulties we can say
that we form a team that it works very smoothly.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Antigoni – Halestorm
Jim - Queensrÿche
Fotis – Iron Maiden
Michalis - Gojira
Aris - Pantera.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The main sources of inspiration are modern society, everyday life, and the feelings that
come along with these. More specifically, in our second album which will be released very soon a
wide range of thoughts is revealed concerning criticism, racism, inequality, persistence, weakness,
unfulfilled dreams, family, past relationships, life choices, suppressed souls, despair and hope.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last performance was at Ladies of Metal Festival Vol. 4 (April 2022) organized by Angels PR
promotion, here, in Greece. After that, we focused on the preparation of the second album.
7. Where would you like to act?
Beacon Theatre NY!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Gojira!
9. Whom not?
We are open to collaborations, so no names here!
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Of course, there is always productive stress before every performance, but not something
extreme. After the first one or two songs usually you overcome this, but I think (Antigoni) that the
most important thing is to concentrate on the interaction with the audience and not to focus on
the possible mistakes or fear. I believe that the most important thing is to achieve to share your
energy and become one with the people that hear you at this moment.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Of course, each one of us has our own influences and we believe that this is something that is quite
interesting for the ensemble, however, if we have to mention the most inspiring influences of the
“Disillusive Play” sound that would be bands like Queensrÿche, Conception, Marillion, King Crimson,
Pendragon, also more modern bands such as Halestorm, Stone Sour, Avenged Sevenfold and many,
many others.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We have never been asked for something weird up to now!
13. What do you think of your fans?
Most of them are musically educated people, who enjoy the concerts' songs, either ours or covers,
without hiding their excitement! We want to thank them very much for their support!
14. What do you think of our site?
Oh, you have a great site!! Congratulations!! A lot of information, many bands and very well
organized! Keep up the good work! We are very thankful for this interview and we are looking
forward to the next time!
15. Something to add?
We want to thank our audience for the support, the Wormeholedeath for arranging this nice
interview, and of course, one more time, you! We hope you are all doing well!
