Interviews: Fathom Farewell
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band, Fathom Farewell from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Originally the band was called A Fathom Farewell. This name was created by a prior
member and essentially is a metaphor for a watery grave. We’ve always written about
the potential consequences of humanity being careless with the planet and in general
with each other so the watery grave is a metaphor for those consequences. It also could
mean comprehending goodbye, fathoming a farewell so to speak which is also a
metaphor for the grave potential consequences of humanity’s carelessness. Of course, there
are many people out there who aim to make a positive impact and we have a great deal
of hope for the future, but reminding humanity that we must take care of the planet
and each other to live peacefully has always inspired us a great deal. We have since
changed the name to Fathom Farewell since it makes the name easier to identify online
without the A and also is what most people called us anyway.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Didn’t really plan it that way, just how it ended up. We all listen to a great deal of
different music and Fathom is sort of a combination of many things we like. It’s also just so fun
to essentially have a license to aggressively jump around a stage and get people going.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Nope! Since the first lineup the first time any of us met was to play music in this band.
The first guitarist contacted Alex because he was looking for a vocalist. After he left Alex revamped the lineup with mostly people he met through playing music that was looking for a
band. It’s very difficult to find 4-5 people that actually will devote themselves to playing music
being at the top of their priorities but the lineup of the past few years is all on the same page
as to making this our career.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Alex Cohen – A Perfect Circle
Dustin Black – Meshuggah
EJ Gellar – Motley Crue
Alicia Marinelli – All That Remains
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The Planet and people and the consequences of mistreating the planet and/or ourselves. We
as a species can do better and it gets us all fired up.
6. Where was your last gig?
Providence, RI at a venue called Alchemy with our homies in Tallah, Enox, and The Mighty Fall.
7. Where would you like to perform?
The Worcester Palladium is our favorite venue to perform at of all time and our home base.
The venue we would most like to perform at someday specifically would be Red Rocks, but we
are also dying to play mainstage on a massive festival.
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
Nothing More. We absolutely adore Nothing More.
9. Whom not?
GG Allin. If he were still alive we would likely steer clear.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Stage fright only existed for us in the early years before going onstage, but once we hit that
stage, the stage fright was a wrap. It’s all about preparing your material enough at practice to
where your confidence in what you do exceeds your fright.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Nothing More, System of a Down, Meshuggah, Northlane, August Burns Red, Coheed, and
Cambria
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We’ve definitely had a few people be like “Get naked” and that’s a pretty extreme request in a
public scenario.
13. What do you think of your fans?
I don’t know, let me think about that for a second. LMAO just kidding we absolutely adore
every single one of our fans so much. We love them like family. They support us following our
dreams and that’s literally priceless even coming from one person let alone the large pool of
people that have shown us love over the years. We f’in love our fans so much.
14. What do you think of our site?
Looks awesome! Lots of cool stuff on there, we love what you guys do!
15. Something to add?
We just dropped a new single called “Vitriol”. It’s streaming everywhere. Go check it out.
