Interviews: Halflighted

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Sludge Metal/Death Metal band, Halflighted from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their INSTAGRAM PROFILE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that? 

At first, the band’s name was going to be Half Light, inspired by the first song of Doom: vs’ “Dead Words Speak”, since the original idea was to play Doom Metal. Later on, we added the suffix “-ed” following Entombed, Enthroned, Enslaved, Enforced, or many others to make the name more unique.

2. Why did you want to play this genre? 

As I said before, the original idea was to play Doom Metal in the style of Winter, but as other members entered the band, our initial influences got combined with their different tastes, resulting in the addition of elements of Black, Death, Rock, Gothic, and so on.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed? 

Some of us did, but others got to know each other already inside the band.

4. Each band member's favorite band? 

Oskart: Opeth, Winter, Doom: vs, Prophecy Of Doom, Psychonaut 4, Ignea, Obsidian Tide, Ava Inferi, Lady Luna And The Devil.

Varg The Mighty: Satyricon, Dragonforce, Bolt Thrower, Judas Priest, Burzum, Candlemass, Rotting Christ.

Mark: Paradise Lost and Amon Amarth.

Pepe: Lone Star without a doubt, and also Los Brincos and Formula V. MAD: Rammstein and System Of A Down.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs? 

This varies among each band member, but in general, we’re mainly inspired by nature, day-to-day struggles, history, and horror films.

6. Where was your last gig?

In our rehearsal room, we adapted it so that around 20 people or so could see us perform with Elven Sorrow as an opener. It actually ended up working out pretty well.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to act in many places, but we’ll have to start where we’re wanted, haha.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We would like to play with many interesting local bands, that would be a good start.

9. Whom not?

No one in particular, although we would obviously like to only perform alongside metal bands.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that? 

We still don’t really have much experience playing live, so we don’t have any tips yet…

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We’re mainly inspired by the bands we’ve mentioned earlier, and since we don’t like to restrict our music genre too much, we allow our different tastes to clash. Other bands that have inspired us for “Obloquy” have been Opeth, Tool, Carpathian Forest, and The Doors.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for? 

We haven’t really been asked anything too weird yet…

13. What do you think of your fans? 

We’re eager to have plenty!!

14. What do you think of our site?

We really didn’t know it that well before this interview, since we mostly get our metal news from very few sites such as Metal Injection, but from what we’ve seen it’s a great web with sweet content that covers interesting bands.
