Interviews: Kilmore

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Stoner Rock/Metal band, Kilmore from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name came from Dan and me (Heather) looking over a map of Ireland, in an area close to where we were born (Armagh) we saw the name Kilmore, in a small village within Armagh City, Northern Ireland. We thought it had a cool sound to it and it meant “the great church” which we thought was appropriate for a hard rock/metal band.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We grew up listening to all types of music but especially metal, rock, and grunge. I always loved the intensity of harder music and how much emotion it can bring. Not only do the players feel it on stage but also the listeners, it can really be a powerful thing.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, Dan and I are brother and sister, so we have been playing music with each other for over 10 years at the time we formed the band. Neil and Jon were also friends from the music scene, and we had hung out many times before at local shows. We have all gotten to know each other well while touring and writing music together over the past 10 years.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Heather Harris – Soundgarden, PJ Harvey

Dan Doran – Tool, Big Wreck

Neil Spence – Tom Petty

Jon MacIsaac - Black Sabbath

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

What inspires me (Heather) to write songs is enjoying the process of constructing something creative and having people enjoy it. It is also an outlet for me to write down my feelings and have a way to express them. Hearing new music also inspires me to write and think outside the box when it comes to writing different types of songs and vocal melodies.

6. Where was your last gig?

The Carleton in Halifax, NS. It was a great show with two other spectacular acts, Brass Alters, and Safeword.

7. Where would you like to act?

If by the act you mean to play, I have always wanted to play in New York City. With their history of hardcore punk and rock and roll it is definitely on my wish list of places to play. Nothing like the Big Apple!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Being featured with PJ Harvey would be a dream. I have had the pleasure of seeing her perform in Montreal and it was a show I will not forget. She has an amazing stage presence and I have been a fan of hers for a long time.

9. Whom not?

I am not sure…..

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

In my earlier years, I had some stage fright and would have anxiety about performing on stage. With time this has gone away and the more I performed the easier it got. My advice would be to know your songs as best you can, so you don’t have to think about them on stage.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The bands that have inspired me the most are Soundgarden, Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Alice in Chains, Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Windhand, Mastodon, Alanis Morissette, Stone Temple Pilots, Black Sabbath, Motorhead

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A dance at a show, not really into dancing with strangers.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Anyone who has supported us is considered the best person in my books. Without their support, it would be hard to keep going as a band. We have had support from fans from Switzerland to Japan and our Canadian fans have always been good to us.

14. What do you think of our site?

Great site that features a lot of heavy music!

15. Something to add?
