Interviews: LARK
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Rock/Progressive Rock band, LARK from Poland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came
out just like that?
It's really not easy to find the right and unique name for the band. You
can have your ideas, being sure that they are very original and
perfectly relate to your music, which in a few minutes are possible to
be found on the internet. We considered several spaces, which we felt
are close to our attitude to the world, and one of them was the sense of
humour. Following on from this idea, we started looking for something
that could bring us the needed feeling. I mean that the most important
is the first impression, you need to like something the first time.
Lark apart from the name of the bird can also be a joke, it's easy to
remember and pronounce all around the world, so we said why not, let's
call the band Lark.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Although we have rather different music fascinations, they all are rock
and metal circles, that's why in a natural way we play more or less
heavily. We don't want to say metal, since modern metal differs a lot
from the one from the '80s or '90s, which our inspirations come from. That's
the reason we call our style heavy rock. I even could say that what we
play is the only possible style, which we would be able to create.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Of course! Apart from our guitarist, who's much younger, the rest of us
have known each other for many years. Marcin (vocal) and Mariusz (bass)
played together for a long time, but it needed time "to grow up" and
find the right combination of different sensitivities. Sometimes it is
difficult for two people to be a pair, while we're talking about a
larger group of people, who have to want to be together in some way. It
so happens, but only can happen, it doesn't have to.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Marcin (vocal) - Iron Maiden
Tomek (guitar) - Metallica
Mariusz (bass)
- Tool
Wojtek (drums) - Rush. Nice mix we suppose
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Moments, events, interactions, impulses etc. We even have a song called
"Moment Traveller", which is close to this feeling when you observe
something and want to express something for this certain reason. The
issue is not to write by force, it's enough to remain a careful
observer, life will bring inspiration by itself.
6. Where was your last gig?
As for Lark, we didn't gig yet. We are waiting for the album release
(September 2023) and only after this, we are planning to start. We really
can't wait for it to start. We know that our music is real and we
believe that the listeners will feel it too.
7. Where would you like to act?
The most important for us is to act in places and environments that
somehow are consistent with the genre we play. It can be a very small
club or big festival stage, the issue is to be at this time and in this
place. We will do our best to play as much as possible, but for sure we
will look for the right background for our music.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Previously, you asked for our favourite bands, so the answer seems to be
easy. However, there are some artists, who "play in their own league", and bring a special atmosphere, irrespective of the kind of music, for
example AC/DC or Michael Jackson, totally different music worlds, but
still influencers. They create the moments to be caught, which I was
talking about above.
9. Whom not?
For sure there are artists, of who we are not fans. Those are the ones, who
although are great artists, have difficult characters and are unbearable
to cooperate. It means, we are talking more about people rather than
their music, since everyone can express himself however he wants. If
you have fans, it means that your music is about something and for
something.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for
beginners on how to beat that?
The stage these are emotions, they can lift you up or overwhelm you. The
issue is to find the right balance, the basic matter is, to be honest and
real in your art. Do not try to pretend to be someone else. Express yourself
the best as you can. Your art can be easy, but must be true. Fans will
be moved by your passion, they will forgive your mistakes provided that
your art gets to them. Following on from these points, there's no need
to be frightened on the stage.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
With no doubt, rock and metal bands from the '80s. That was the golden
age of every kind of music, also pop and others. Once more, we could
return to our favourite bands mentioned above, but there were many
others. Everything started with Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep
Purple, that was the first turn, the first generation, which helped to
create the rest like a new wave of British heavy metal, Iron Maiden, Judas
Priest and many, many others. In parallel was growing the American
market, all the bands from Seattle etc. The 80s also brought other
inspirations, for example U2. That was the best time for every style,
the more you were open, the better artist you became.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
After the gig, one young man asked me to take him back home since his
mother called him, being very nervous that he hasn't returned yet.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Although the music in particular expresses ourselves, it also needs
fans. It all requires interaction since when you talk you need someone
to talk to. We require fans and appreciate their opinions. When making
the music we decided to confess to the world how we are inside, it means
that we are ready to discuss. We want them to talk to us and everyone
regardless of their point of view is welcome. This is a general
conclusion. In terms of us, it's difficult to say yet, since we are at
the beginning of the journey. Our debut album is going to be released in
September and we are very curious and excited about the feedback.
14. What do you think of our site?
We like it! It's professional and it's obvious that without people like
you bands like we nor their fans could not meet to get to know. Thank
you very much for your interest in LARK. We say that our band has no history
since history has just begun and only with people like you, it
will be possible.
15. Something to add?
Let's take care of the environment, while for the others let's try to be
the best version of ourselves.
