Interviews: Masada

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal/Thrash Metal band, Masada from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Masada is a place where in ancient history the people who lived there chose to die rather than be conquered and forced to convert and be ruled. When I heard that, it seemed like the right name.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We were very into the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal and couldn’t get enough of whatever was the heaviest stuff out there at the time. We found Motorhead and Venom but when we found Slayer, it was all over. There was no doubt that we were going to write songs as aggressively as possible.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed? 

Yes. We were friends for years before the band. The original Bass player and I had paper routes and would Cash our little checks at the local record store every week. We would meet there and compete to see who Could buy the coolest album. 

4. Each band member's favorite band? 

Nick Travetto: Kreator

Paul Quinn: Black Sabbath

Ray Vazquez: Meshuggah

Ray Meyers: Pantera

Doug Hamel: Corrosion Of Conformity

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I’ve always loved great stories. Books and movies were always my escape and then I found Iron Maiden, and Black Sabbath (especially Ronnie James Dio era) and fell in love with the music and imagery Great stories Mixed with great sounds just did it for me. I had to try.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in Kenosha Wisconsin.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would definitely like to do a few festivals. Europe, South America, and definitely Mexico.  

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

There are too many to pick from. Let's see, Kreator, Behemoth, Meshuggah, Lamb Of God, The list could go On all day. Any of those would be dream gigs.  

9. Whom not? 

Nobody comes to mind so let's go with anyone who acts like a dick.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I was pretty scared my first time playing live for sure. The best tip I can give is just remember to enjoy it. The adrenaline you get from playing shows is a fantastic high. Try to enjoy it!  

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Slayer, Possessed, Celtic Frost, Venom, Motorhead, and Kreator

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for? 

We were asked to play at a wedding reception. We didn’t do it but we were asked. 

13. What do you think of your fans?

We’ve been very fortunate to make friends with so many people over the years and it’s been beautiful.
