Interviews: Overman

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Rock band, Overman from Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We have chosen the name „Overman“ mainly because we find the thesis of Nietzsche in "also sprach Zarathustra" pretty inspiring. Besides, there are a lot of ways in which the human finds itself above anything or something – or at least wants to reach this state. In the current development, mankind is looking for the next level in terms of KI, robots, genetic improvements and other augmentations – we see many people looking to physically become an Overman right now.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We just let the music take its course and we follow it – we do not seek for any particular genre here, so with our stoner, metal, hardcore, psychedelic rock backgrounds ... being a post-rock band kind of fits this definition.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Jan knows Chris and Hauke for 25 years. Although being separated in time and space, we have found together through making music and creating something together.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Motorpsycho, Kyuss, Golden Void.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Pain is pretty inspiring for some of us. I personally find negative and positive emotions to equally influence the way our music and lyrics go. There is basically a light at the end of the tunnel for every song we do.

6. Where was your last gig?

We did not play live that much with Overman, but we look into it now as interest is starting to pick up.

7. Where would you like to act?

There come 2 Different scenarios into my mind which I would like to do once: 1) doing a gig on the beach with a generator 2) playing the “Fusion Festival”

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We look in all directions for musical collaboration – so basically everybody is a potential feature.

9. Whom not?

Politicians, Nazi scum.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I have done a lot of gigs with all my different projects and I can tell you that: it always feels much more intensive to you acting on stage than for everybody else in the audience. Every little mistake will most likely not be recognized – there can only be one you and there is only one life – so just try it and repeat it if it feels good for you.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Chelsea Wolfe, PJ Harvey, Meredith Monk, Tori Amos, Snapcase, Monster Magnet

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To dance with him and the trees.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Without them, there is no audience.

14. What do you think of our site?

Your site is damn necessary for the underground

15. Something to add?

Many thanks!
