Interviews: Solomonar
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Atmospheric Folk Metal/ Black Metal solo artist, Solomonar from Romania. Check out the interview and follow the artist on his FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Solomonar is the name given to wizards in the Romanian mythology. They are lonely individuals that live
in the mountains, and their primary activity is controlling the wind and weather. I am a wind
instruments player at the core, fascinated by wind and air movement throughout my life, so this match
was only natural.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Atmospheric black metal (albeit with a plethora of influences) is one of the more organic forms of
expression that mean something to me. It is permissive, it is quite permeable when faced with other
genres/influences, so it is a fertile environment for various artistic expressions that may be created
relatively effortlessly.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
It is a one-man project.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
My favorite band is Arkona (Russia).
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Many artists from different genres, books and travels, natural phenomena. The world is full of
inspiration.
6. Where was your last gig?
Solomonar is strictly a studio project (for now). As for me, my last gig was with Clouds in Germany at In
Flammen Open Air.
7. Where would you like to act?
In hard-to-reach places, where music and metal aren’t yet widely accepted. Remote natural areas,
central Asian countries, and the like.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Too many to mention. None that I will mention, so I won’t jinx it. Maybe Igor Stravinsky and Astor
Piazzolla, as I can’t jinx it with the dead.
9. Whom not?
Irrelevant. Haven’t even thought of it. Anyone whose music or style doesn’t speak to me.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Honestly never. You just go out there and kick ass. Focus on what you can do best. One of the beautiful
things about music is that if you make a mistake, nobody gets hurt.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Arkona and Eluveitie for sure. Vintersorg, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Frontierer, Nokturnal Mortum,
Cristina Pato, Astor Piazzolla. I don’t want to fill the page with names. But generally artists from various
musical paths.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Good one. I signed a lot of shoes for the first time in 2023. And some faces. There was a weird long
message on social media once, asking me for a photo with my autograph. It came from an authoritarian
country with no metal shows, and the tone was extremely passionate and somewhat hopeless. It was
nice and weird at the same time.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Best people in the world. How can you listen to the things I make? Why?
14. What do you think of our site?
Grateful to be here, among great artists.
15. Something to add?
Thank you for having me. Enjoy “XIV” and keep an eye on my future endeavors. You might not regret it.
