Interviews: SPILLAGE

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock/Doom Metal band, SPILLAGE from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Tony Spillman: Initially, I called the project FADED but it didn't stick. I thought SPILLAGE was cool because it was a play on my last name PLUS, it has a spiritual meaning for me as well.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Tony Spillman: I've always been a BIG fan of what we call RIFF ROCK of the 1970s (best time ever for music in my opinion). I like it because each song has its own identity/feel/groove. That's how we based the SPILLAGE style of music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Tony Spillman: Hahaha, besides Elvin, all of the members of SPIILLAGE have known each other for over forty years... Nick and Billy have known each other since grade school!

4. Each band member's favorite band? 

Tony Spillman: WOW! Tough one... for me, it would have to be the Beatles. What I can say about the other members is that our musical influences come from a variety of styles and genres from Jazz, Blues, Classical, Rock & Roll, Heavy Metal, Doom & Stoner, etc. So, you never know where we might go in writing material!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Tony Spillman: Nick and I write the music in collaboration with the other players and Elvin writes the lyrics. So, for the band, we have a musical formula we stick to for the most part. As far as the lyrics, we might tell Elvin about a topic we are interested in and he takes it from there.

6. Where was your last gig?

Tony Spillman: West Chicago Railroad Days festival on June 23, 2023

7. Where would you like to act?

Tony Spillman: I would love to tour Europe someday...

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Tony Spillman: Uli Roth, Trouble and Spiritual Beggars

9. Whom not? 

Tony Spillman: NOT Taylor Swift, lol

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? 

Tony Spillman: Not really, I love the adrenalin and excitement of performing our music. It's like "being in the game" for me. Any tips for beginners on how to beat that? Embrace that excitement! It's better than any drug... Prepare yourself to perform well! That will give you confidence.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Tony Spillman: The Beatles, Iron Butterfly, Harry Nilsson, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, U-F-O, early Judas Priest and early Scorpions, and many more...

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for? 

Tony Spillman: To live with me...

13. What do you think of your fans? 

Tony Spillman: SPILLAGE fans are AWESOME!!! They usually have a good demeanor, are friendly, and have good taste in music hahaha

14. What do you think of our site? 

Tony Spillman:  I love it, you guys ROCK! I like the variety of the music you post on your site, and that you have a dedicated section for opinions. The thing that stands out the most, is your link to explore bands from other countries! I have never seen that before on any music website. VERY cool!
