Interviews: Thedus

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Instrumental Post-Sludge Metal band, Thedus from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Actually, the project born years before we met from Rob’s mind, had to be called 'Cosmo', but then an Italian artist with the same name came out, we had to think of something else. Being fans of the movie Alien, we got the name from one of the planets mentioned in the movie, planet Thedus.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Well simple, we like the heavy and slow riffs, which give a feeling of indescribable power!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Rob and Ivo have known each other for many years and have collaborated over time on several projects. Simo first came into contact with Rob with the intention of creating a Stoner/Doom/Psych project with another guy, but it never materialized. Sometime later, Rob combined his knowledge and presented Simo and Ivo, proposing his first written songs and from there everything else started! 

4. Each band member's favorite band?

It's always difficult to make a choice because each of us has made millions of plays for thousands of bands! Having to answer by putting the bands that have marked a turning point in our lives, Rob definitely Pink Floyd, Yob, Neurosis, Ivo Started and loved Motorhead, Type 0 Negative, and Simo definitely RHCP, Tool, and Ufomammut.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The Pot!! Ehehehehe apart from the jokes, it goes very to sensations...something that you have heard live or on CD, riffs that come to the head from nothing. The final decision depends on the feeling of playing riffs the first few times.

6. Where was your last gig?

We were lucky enough to play at the Space Goat Fest at the CPA in Florence, many great bands and a lot of audience! A bomb!!

7. Where would you like to act?

There are many festivals of our kind in which sooner or later we would like to perform! Maybe Desert Fest, Roadburn, Duna Jam...are so many of them!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

It would be phenomenal to play together with Ufomammut, which is one of the reasons why Thedus were born! Even some other historical bands like Bongripper, Yob, and Neurosis would make us extremely happy!

9. Whom not?

Surely never with bands very far from our genre or bands where there are members who believe they are god, but they are nobody. The music is simple! 

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Afraid I would say no! Maybe excessive tension! It is human the first time to feel fear or tension, and our advice is: you are there to do what you love, enjoy it! The more you enjoy it, the more the audience enjoys it! It just takes concentration and fun when you’re on stage! People’s judgment or reactions, you have to give a shit! People in any area of life are ready to judge you, so the important thing is that you are happy with what you are doing and you have the smile to move on! 

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I would definitely say Ufomammut, Crowbar, Neurosis, Bongripper, Yob.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

The autograph ehehehe.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Talk about fans is perhaps still early, but I must say that we were surprised by the great feedback we had during our lives! There are many people who follow us, and we can say that they are all great people, quiet and it is always a pleasure to exchange a chat!

14. What do you think of our site?

You are great! It is always great to find those who dedicate body and soul to promoting the underground scene! We are knowing many! Maximum respect!
