Interviews: Calvaria

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Metal band Calvaria from the UK. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We always wanted to go for a single-word band name, so we started thinking of some cool/gothic-sounding words and we discovered 'Calvaria' which is Latin for skull.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We decided to go for this genre as we've always been fans of music that is heavy but also melodic. We tried to combine all our individual influences and that is how we got our sound.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Our singer and guitarist already knew each other then we met our bassist through mutual friends. We recently parted ways with our drummer but have some friends of ours filling in on drums for upcoming gigs and recordings - it's great to see how our sound is progressing.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Scott (vocals) - Bon Jovi, The Raven Age, Whitesnake

Natasha (guitar) - The Raven Age

James (bass) - Dream Theater, Tesseract

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We get inspired to write by listening to our favourite bands and also seeing people enjoying our music inspires us to write more.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played at The Hope and Anchor in Islington (London) last night.

7. Where would you like to act?

The Underworld in Camden is a venue we'd love to play at. We'd also love the opportunity to gig outside of England at some point.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Any of the bands we mentioned as our favourites.

9. Whom not?

We'd happily take any gig opportunity, doesn't matter who with.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

We've luckily never suffered from stage fright, the first few gigs are always a bit daunting but the more gigs you do, the easier it gets to control nerves.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The Raven Age, Bullet For My Valentine, Dio, Whitesnake - definitely a mix of modern and 80s bands.

12. What do you think of your fans?

We really appreciate everyone who comes to our gigs and listens to our music. Nothing beats playing to a great crowd!

13. What do you think of our site?

We think it's great that you're giving underground bands the opportunity to be seen and heard. Thank you for interviewing us, we appreciate the support.

14. Something to add?

Our new single 'Cursed One' will be out on all major streaming platforms on 11th August!!
