Interviews: Deth Kaktus

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal/Thrashcore band Deth Kaktus, from the USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Believe it or not, there is no crazy story behind our band name like everyone thinks. We just had a bit too much to drink, and started writing random words on a cardboard box with a sharpie (we didn’t have access to paper) we started combining different words and liked Deth Kaktus the most. Everyone knows it is not metal unless you spell your band name wrong.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Heavy metal is the ultimate form of expression. It’s rebellious, exciting, powerful, beautiful, majestic, and brutal occasionally all at the same time. This genre of music makes us feel alive and we never wanted to play anything else.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Matt Garvey and Adam Osetek have known each other for about 2 and a half decades before the band was formed. Sean Orozco put out a Craigslist ad in 2008 for a lead guitarist to play Metallica covers. From there, Matt and Sean went through countless lineup changes until we found Manny in 2012 and Jay Garcia in 2018. Shortly after finding Jay, Adam rejoined the band in 2019 thus completing our current lineup.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Matt Garvey - In Flames

Sean Orozco - Metallica

Adam Osetek - Deftones

Emmanuel Master - White Chapel

Jay Garcia - Gojira

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Music is how we express ourselves. Every riff and song makes us feel something, and there is nothing better than being able to share that experience with others.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was NJ MetalFest 8 at Debonair Music Hall in Teaneck NJ.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to play at Madison Square Garden, and Wacken Festival because there is nothing else like it.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Some acts we would like to feature would be Hank Williams III, Amon Amarth, In Flames, Gojira, Mastodon, Parkway Drive, and Alice In Chains, just to name a few. There are too many bands we would like to be featured with that we can’t fit them all here.

9. Whom not?

We are open to working with anyone because there is always an opportunity to learn something new.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

There are occasional pre-show jitters, but once we are on stage that all goes away. As far as others dealing with stage fright, you have to rehearse enough until you are 100% confident in your ability to perform the material.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, Amon Amarth, Ghost, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Dio, Death, Limp Bizkit, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Hank Williams III, Parkway Drive, Lamb of God, Unearth, Anthrax, Exodus, Overkill, Suicidal Tendencies, Candlemass, Arch Enemy, Alice In Chains, Sound Garden, Pantera, Johnny Cash, Nirvana, RATT, Judas Priest, Nevermore, Nocturnal Rights, Nine Inch Nails, Hammerfall, Clutch, The Sword, Deep purple, Truck fighters, Thin LIzzy, Kiss, Blue Oyster Cult, UFO, Scorpions, Sepultura, Kyuss, Queens of the Stoneage, Deftones, Faith No More, Alex Skolnick Trio, Meshuggah, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Kreator, Korn, Morbid Angel, Whiplash, Symphony X, Mastodon, Gojira, just to name a few.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

At one of our very first shows, some drunk guy wandered one stage and began flirting and groping our bass player at the time.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are the absolute best! Playing for people who love what you are doing brings it to a whole new level. We fucking love you guys!

14. What do you think of our site?

After being signed with Wormholedeath Records, they reached out to us and told us about your website. We think that your website is awesome! It’s a great way for new and upcoming artists to get the attention and the voice they truly deserve! We appreciate what you are doing for the scene!

15. Something to add?

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years. We could not have done this without you!
