Interviews: Monkey Intrusion
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band Monkey Intrusion from Italy. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Well, that’s fun... Vincenzo came back from a trip to Singapore and in his hotel room, he
read a warning about keeping doors and windows shut due to monkey intrusion. We all
had the same image of musical monkeys intruding into listeners' minds.. and there you
have the name.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We really didn’t choose a genre.. it simply suited what we wanted to express musically
and lyrics-wise.. a look into the problems of our society as well as the emotions that those
convey to the people.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
The friendship between Marco Plesnicar and Vincenzo dates back to the school years
when they actually started their first garage band together. Marco Bertoli and Enrico knew
each other having played in previous bands together. Fortunately we get along very well
so we are more friends than members of a band.
4. Each band member favourite band?
There’s been a great debate about this question because everyone had more than one
band in mind. Having to pick just one Enrico went for Soundgarden, Marco Bertoli picked
Dream Theatre, Vincenzo Genesis while Marco Plesnicar sticks to a classic Led Zeppelin.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Great question.. the process isn't so straightforward so you can have a definite answer.
We all write songs therefore there are different situations that trigger the imagination.
Some come from actual experiences we had and some are just mind trips put in music and
words.
6. Where was your last gig?
Well, it was in a small club just outside Trieste and we’ve been very pleased about how it
went.
7. Where would you like to perform?
We’re looking for opportunities all around Europe.. but having to choose that would be a
big festival next summer!
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
And this has been another debated one.. in the end we agreed for Foo Fighters.
9. Whom not?
We couldn’t pick a name among many .. instead we all agree that we couldn’t play with
any artist even slightly linked to reggaeton music.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat
that?
Yeah sure! It’s just natural. But the worst has always been when you don’t feel well
prepared. So here’s the tip: rehearse a lot, be sure you know your stuff, don’t get a gig just
because it’s there if you haven’t practised a lot. Also don’t be over conscious of your role in
the band.. if the overall flow goes smooth most of the little personal mistakes will go
unnoticed, so no panic!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
We’ll have to go back to the previous question about favourite bands but certainly we can
add the likes of Alice in Chains, Dead Kennedys, Police, Guns N’ Roses.. and so many
more coming from the ones we loved that we would go on for too a long time!
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Once at a gig there was this old fellow with a Sylvester Stallone look that while was
dancing around was always kissing his byceps! All of a sudden he started to shout
demanding a song from Ozzy Opp!?! We’re still wondering if he wanted Ozzy Osbourne or
Iggy Pop!!
13. What do you think of your fans?
They’re just great! When things start rolling it’s fantastic to see the way they react.
14. What do you think of our site?
It’s truly interesting. It’s very well done with a lot of artists to discover and follow. We really
like it.
