Interviews: Split Image

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hardcore band Split Image from the USA. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name came from one of our favorite crossover bands. The band's name is Excel and our name came from their first album of the same name. Guitarist Joey Sia and Drummer Christian Sia were on their way back from work and we were listening to Excel when he thought why not name our band after their first album.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It just kind of evolved that way. Christian and Joey were in a previous band named Devastation and the genre of music played started out as hardcore punk but the sound evolved from hardcore punk to a more heavy sound by the time Split Image started. The sound was completely different adopting a more blended sound of crossover, hardcore breakdowns with punk roots.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We did. I met Christian in high school and met Joey around that time. I was asked to join the previous band Devastation but declined that offer because I had prior commitments. The time eventually worked out and I took the opportunity right before Split formed.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

One of Joey's favorite bands is Weezer, and One of Christians's favorite bands is Turnstile. One of my major favorite bands is Pantera.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I'd say it's different experiences, viewpoints & any traumas we've endured, to truths and various perspectives on different topics such as mental struggles, being ostracized, paranormal things such as demons & sleep paralysis, spirituality & the acceptance of death in the esoteric and spiritual sense. Faith and views on the seven deadly sins. We choose to apply a perspective when it comes to different situations and different truths.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in Hollywood at a venue called the PauHaus.

7. Where would you like to act?

We'd love to play more shows and venues here in CA, take over the West Coast, and then travel East and take over the States. Then we want to tour abroad!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We want to play with more bands coming out right now in the scene. Drain, Dead Heat, Scowl. Etc.

9. Whom not?

Not sure of any at this time.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes, I used to feel that more often when it was fresh to me. That and I had to warm up to my role as the vocalist. Now it doesn't bother me haha. As for Chris and Joey I doubt that because they've been on stage for years. As for tips, I'd say embrace what you're feeling and use it as your fuel to propel you especially when it comes down to performances! Enjoy what you're doing! Embrace the crowd and put your passion for music forward!!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I'd say Turnstile, Drain, Power Trip, Pantera, Dead Heat, Xibalba, Type O Negative, Excel, Cro-Mags, and many more bands.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I really can't think of anything weird. We're appreciative of anything a fan asks for. At our last show, we signed a shirt for one of our fans and took a photo together! That was pretty cool!

13. What do you think of your fans?

We are appreciative and grateful to have our fans and happy to have any new listeners! 🙏

14. What do you think of our site?

Your site is great! It has a lot of new and upcoming bands!
