Behind The Artworks: Bacterial Husk - Anthropogenic Ruin (2023)

The artwork is undeniably in Matt’s style. We gave him some lyrical themes and a few concepts we thought visually worked to represent Anthropogenic Ruin, the end of the era of humankind. It has two obvious reads, one is mankind’s destruction by its own hand, the other is the inevitable obliteration of humanity due to the chaotic nature of the universe. Visual elements include spore comets, planetary collisions, a fossilized forest of Prototaxites, and the cave embedded with bone and technology. We were playing off the Allegory of the Cave by Plato, peering out at reality for the first time only to see remnants of failure and cosmic indifference at play.
