Interviews: MOURNING MIST

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Doom Metal band MOURNING MIST from Italy. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

The original name was Morning Mist which came out naturally since the land where we live is often covered in mist or even fog when we wake up every morning. It then developed from Morning to Mourning to make it more appropriate and give it a darker spirit which reflects the music we play

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Nothing planned actually, we just had randomly rehearsals (for the fun of it) once in a while but after some time good tunes were taking place. It was then natural to try to give them the right shape and record them properly. That’s also one of the reasons why the 1st and 2nd albums have a different style: nothing planned but we let the music flow freely instead.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Funny enough we are both Italians but we accidentally met for the first time abroad and cultivated our musical relationship till it resulted in something more tangible, namely Mourning Mist

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Herr Kvasir: hard to pick someone. I am really a music addict but I can say I am mostly into ‘80s metal bands.

Ecnerual: Devil Doll, Ulver, early Tiamat, and My Dying Bride.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Said that we are musicians it feels like a natural thing to play and subsequently compose music. It is a primary need, like feeding your body or finding shelter.

6. Where was your last gig?

We’ve never played a gig in the proper sense of the term but we play live every time we play together. Rehearsals might happen in the woods or open air on the top of old ruins. This is how we like to play and it happened we gathered a small public made of people that happened to be there. They obviously didn’t know who we were or which “band” they were seeing live.

7. Where would you like to act?

Well, a tour from venue to venue on a small scale would be cool. We love pubs and small places where we can interact with fans and like-minded persons and share the passion for obscure music and good drinking.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

A gig with Witchfinder General and Zeeb Parkes on vocals.

9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Not really, I started playing at an early age and I’ve done that continuously, it's all good. There’s obviously always a bit of anxiety before the show but as far as you can keep it under control it’s only fun. The more you play the more normal it gets

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

My Dying Bride for the use of the violin, Devil Doll for their immense composition, the Italian dark Sound for the feeling (Paul Chain, The Black), and the obscure NWOBHM bands for their real heavy metal attitude and genuine passion.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A crazy guy asked to lick the violin’s strings!!!

12. What do you think of your fans?

Our music was made for ourselves not built up for a fanbase but if anyone finds pleasure while listening to we can just be honoured.

13. What do you think of our site?

We didn’t know about your zine but we will soon check it out

14. Something to add?

Thank you for your support and see you on stage somewhere.
