Interviews: The SCREAM

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hardcore band The SCREAM from Italy. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

The idea for the band's name has a nice story behind it: after having had enough to drink at a local bar to celebrate Halloween night, we decided to sober up a bit on a bench before heading home. In the meantime, we were talking nonsense, as often happens in these situations, about a possible name for our band: we wanted something impactful, reflecting our desire to tell the world that we exist and that we're loud, disruptive, and dangerous. At some point, a guy wearing the killer mask from the movie Scream walked by us. At that moment, we looked at each other and all shouted the same thing, our name will be "The SCREAM"

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Let's say that the genre we play isn't the result of a choice; it came about very naturally based on the musical genres we listen to, which are mainly Punk Hardcore, Heavy and Trash Metal, and Hard Rock.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We've been friends for a lifetime, even before being a band! We were born and raised in the same town, and shared thousands of experiences, both good and bad, but we've always stayed together to support each other. So I would say we know each other very well, perhaps even too well!

4. Each band member's favorite band?

We actually have several favorite groups, and they are quite different from each other, but I would say that MOTORHEAD is the one that everyone agrees on!!!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

In reality, when we write a song, most of the time, we start with the music, whether it's a vocal part or a guitar or bass riff. Then, based on the emotions that the music conveys to us, we write the lyrics, drawing inspiration from a bit of everything: reality, imagination, nightmares, dreams, desires, things we love and hate, but also from movies, books, or stories from other people. In general, we feel very free to talk about anything in our songwriting.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last concert was at a party on a farm with two other bands who are our friends. The stage was basically a hay cart, set up for the occasion with lights, amplifiers, drums, and even a flamethrower. We had a lot of fun because we had never played not only for people but also for the farm animals, although by the end of the evening, people and animals were pretty similar... the magic of hardcore alcoholic parties!!!

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to play abroad, outside of Italy, to connect with a different audience, where our genre might be more popular. Unfortunately, in Italy, the scene we belong to is very niche, it works well, and the audience is enthusiastic, but there are few dedicated spaces for these events. We had even organized a one-week tour in Russia; we had already obtained passports and visas, but unfortunately, due to COVID-19 first and then the war, everything fell through. So we have a strong desire to make up for it in this sense.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Our dream would be to collaborate with a reputable booking agency and do as many concerts as possible. We have a lot of fun in our live performances, and anyone who comes to see us can see that and have fun with us. Plus, our dream would be to open for Danko Jones for some dates! They are one of the active bands we love the most, and every time they come to Italy, we go to see them! We even met them after a concert and gave them one of our CDs, seriously!

9. Whom not?

Honestly, we don't have negative preferences... I would say we wouldn't want to collaborate with people in general whom it's better not to trust and who unfortunately have deceived us in the past... and then, we wouldn't collaborate with trappers... we know it's a new style of rebellion, like punk was, but the Trap scene doesn't represent us, and we wouldn't want to be part of it.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

No, absolutely not; in fact, maybe it's the place where we feel most comfortable. For us, the stage is our small but significant space of complete freedom, release, and fun, where everything is valid, and we can do and say whatever we want, where we momentarily leave behind the obligations, judgments, and fears of daily life and truly let loose! The more people there are, the better we perform in terms of the show. Advice for those who are afraid of the stage? Don't pay attention to others' judgments; do what you enjoy freely and have fun. If you have fun, others will have fun with you. Or there's the trick of imagining the entire audience naked on the toilet while waiting for you to hand them toilet paper, which of course, you won't!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Among the many we listen to, four have mostly shaped our genre: Motorhead is definitely at the top; we can say they are our musical "godfathers." Then, in the punk scene, there are The Offspring, Danko Jones as a band in today's music scene, and also the very early Metallica from Kill 'Em All.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Once, after a concert, we went to another place to finish the evening among ourselves and have some cocktails in a relaxed atmosphere. We had our instruments (bass and electric guitar) slung over our shoulders to take them to the hotel, and someone asked us, "Were you guys playing? Come on, play something here now, without amplifiers!"

13. What do you think of your fans?

For us, our fans are sacred. We always try to involve them in any way in our adventures, music videos, evenings, and parties. When we finish playing, we're the first to come down and hang out with them, drink, and party until our legs can't hold us up anymore! They are our fuel, and we are their fire!

14. What do you think of our site?

We think that there should be many more websites like yours, supporting genuine music like ours and serving as a beautiful showcase where you can sometimes find very talented projects. So we thank you very much for what you do!

15. Something to add?

Our third album will be released soon! It's a real bomb, and we're very proud of it! We invite you to follow our social media pages on Instagram and Facebook (just search for Screampowertrio) to stay updated and listen to our tracks on Spotify and YouTube. We hope to see you at a sweaty and noisy live performance one day!
