Interviews About Albums: Misty Route - Without A Trace (2023)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Greek Alternative Metal band Misty Route to ask some questions about their album "Without A Trace". 

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

"Without A Trace" is our band's full-length debut album. It comprises of 11 tracks, one of them being the album intro, recorded and mixed by Antonis Kontozoglou at 9800 Studios in Athens, Greece. Mastering was done by Göran Finnberg (Opeth, In Flames, Meshuggah, Arch Enemy, Soilwork, Hammerfall, Dark Tranquility and more) at the mastering room AB, Sweden. The album was first released in digital format on the 26th of December 2021 and since then it has received a large number of very positive reviews both nationally and internationally. On the 24th of November 2023 "Without A Trace" will be eventually releasing as digipack CD through BITUME label and we are very eager and grateful for this!

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

"Without A Trace" comes from the lyrics of our song "Lost In A Fairytale":

Gone without a trace

Lost in a fairytale

Talking to myself again

Lost in a fairytale

Far from worries, numb from pain

We chose this one line from the album's lyrics, as it perfectly pairs with the name of our band and also represents core elements of our music, like the mystery, the dark & psychedelic atmosphere, the tension build-up, etc.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

It's the whole band. There are tracks that started from a guitar riff, some others that started with a vocal or a bass line, or even ones that started as a solid structure to be rehearsed and polished. There is always a central idea on which the rest of the elements are built, but there is tons of freedom in the composing procedure. This is where the magic happens.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

You know, it's really impossible to pick among your own children. We can just say that Sweet Revenge is one of those high-energy tracks of ours with a wide dynamic range that ticks the most boxes of our genre, so it's highly possible to be liked.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

"Without A Trace" is a human-centric album. It is a view towards the inside of our soul, focusing on what we feel, our inner fears and weaknesses, the people who stand by our side in difficult times, and those little moments of joy that heal our wounds. So if there is one special message behind the lines, then that would be to spend quality time learning ourselves better and accepting ourselves the way we are.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Would love to share an extract from the track "Faceless" with you, but since it is telling a whole story, it would be more fun if you would check it out in its entirety.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Musically, it would be hard to list all of our inspirations, since we are a mixture of many different genres. Some main ones, just to name a few, could be Godsmack, Tool, Deftones, Opeth, Metallica, Soen and Breaking Benjamin.

The album is heavily inspired by the beloved faces of the band members and pure emotions. Reading through the album's lyrics will give you some sort of hint on this. We will always be inspired by these familiar faces as they have influenced who we are today.

8. Something to add?

This is a very productive period for our band full of aspiring plans and changes, apart from the release of "Without A Trace" as a digipack CD by BITUME label. Notably, we have a new drummer named Konstantinos Kaloudis, who has joined our music family very recently to replace Kostas Bacopoulos and we are beyond excited to work together with him, as we are already preparing new stuff for our next album!
