Interviews About Albums: SÖMA - SÖMA (2023)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Brazilian Rock band SÖMA to ask some questions about their album "SÖMA"

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

Felipe Amarelo: My vision about this EP Soma is the following: We are four experienced musicians in the music scene, who have played in pubs and different types of events throughout their careers. Now, we come together to pursue the common dream of creating high-quality music for the world, sharing their truths, their lives, and their daily experiences. As we spent more time together, the EP took shape, with shared trips and an exchange of ideas that influenced our compositions. The band is solidifying with the intention of playing good old rock and roll, but with a more contemporary approach and lyrics that can inspire and guide those who listen.

2. What does the name of the EP/CD mean?

Beto Márquez: Soma's story is a combination of the experiences of all the bands involved but mainly reflects the union of friends in a project that addresses love, heartbreak and everyday and social challenges. It also represents a new option to make life lighter, showing that when we come together with friends and relationships, we become stronger and better as people and as rock musicians. Together we can change what seemed impossible, contributing to the new era of national rock, focusing on the present but always keeping an eye on the future. Soma has the meaning of adding up, adding up everything that life brings.

3. Who is the composer of the CD/EP?

Our composer is Thiago Pher. That transposes our feelings and conversations into songs.

4. If you had to choose a song, which would you choose?

Vagner Farias: I would choose a song that is very important to us, which is the song Soma, it was created on the day of recording our first music video called Perto de Você.

The song Soma started to emerge there, and it basically talks about who we are, what we believe in, and what we are doing.

5. Is there any special message in this EP/CD? If there is, what is it?

Vagner Farias: As mentioned previously, the story of this EP summarizes the beginning of the band's project. We started as an original project, but Tiago's lyrics, which address topics such as relationships, optimism, and even social and political issues, helped us understand ourselves better. The EP also features a sound influenced by our individual tastes, ranging from heavier influences like Helmet to current rock elements. In the lyrics, we intend to reflect the reality of the people and the region where we live, showing both the struggles and the possibilities for improvement. Soma is not just the four of us; it is the sum of all the people who support us, a worldview that values unity, the present, and the future.

6. Are there any lyrics you'd love to share?

Music: Soma
Author: Thiago Pher
Composer: Thiago Pher, Beto Marques, Vagner Farias, Felipe Amarelo
Interpreter: Soma

And everything that will be will be
Who doesn't add up then it's time to arrive
If we no longer have time to wait
Life is now so let it go, so let it go

How one wave follows another without worrying
The sand is the land's destiny to find
Bring back whatever is good
Like the unforgettable chord of your sound

Remember who makes your heart freeze
That gives meaning to every sun that shines
Every day that comes to present us
Waking up to your laughter is all I need

And everything that will be will be
Who doesn't add up then it's time to arrive
If we no longer have time to wait
Life is now so let it go, so let it go

And everything that will be will be
Who doesn't add up then it's time to arrive
If we no longer have time to wait
Life is now so let it go, so let it go

7. What inspirations were important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, anyone you would like to especially thank?

Felipe Amarelo: It is important to highlight the contribution of our bassist Betinho, in the musical production of this EP. He brought musical references that helped us define the sound and arrangements of the songs. Speaking of influences, each of us has our own musical preferences.

I've always been a fan of Led Zeppelin and at the beginning of the band, I listened to a lot of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Betinho brought a strong influence from Helmet, while Tiago has a strong connection with the 80s.

These influences mixed to create the sound that characterizes Soma: an optimistic, happy, reflective, yet heavy and energetic sound.

8. Anything to add?

The band Soma believes in the importance of living in the present moment, without worrying about the future or regretting the past, conveying the message that everything that happens in life has a purpose and a meaning and that we should trust in destiny and ourselves. our dreams. The track Soma wants to convey a feeling of joy, hope, and gratitude for life and the people we love.

We send love and respect without prejudice. With an aggressive, heavy, and contagious sound.
