Interviews: Animamortua
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Power Metal/Thrash Metal band Animamortua from Malta. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
We were not looking for a regular English name, then Josef (our drummer) ultimately proposed “Animamortua” and it rang right.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
The music we play is an amalgamation of all our influences, ranging from melodic power metal, aggressive thrash metal, and everything in between.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, Josef, Juan, and Clayton played in another band together before Animamortua, while Steven and Emanuel were friends from the Maltese Metal scene.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Juan - Iron Maiden
Clayton - Helloween, Nevermore, Machine Head
Steven - Helloween
Josef - Metallica
Emanuel - Blind Guardian, Nevermore, Symphony X
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Lyrically it’s never the same thing - sometimes it’s political, sometimes it’s sci-fi and/or mythology.
Musically it either starts from a jamming session or someone comes up with an idea and we build on it together.
6. Where was your last gig?
Here in Malta, at The Garage.
7. Where would you like to act?
Anywhere really, especially in Europe.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We wouldn’t like to be tied down to one band, however, looking back at our favorite band question (see above) would be a good place to start.
9. Whom not?
While we wouldn’t like to exclude anyone, we’d prefer to stick to bands who we can gel with musically.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
The first few shows as a band are always the hardest, especially until you get used to the other members in the band. One tip we can give is practice, both individually as well as in a band. Once you get on stage it’s time to let loose and have fun.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Musically, we’d say somewhere between Nevermore, Symphony X and Helloween.
Vocal wise, Bruce Dickinson and Ronnie James Dio.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Sorry to disappoint, but nothing crazy as of yet, we wouldn’t hold our breath on it though!
13. What do you think of your fans?
Although Malta does not have a massive metal scene, fans were always supportive and are looking forward to our new album “Gods Among Us”.
14. What do you think of our site?
We appreciate the work you’re doing, supporting smaller bands trying to make a name for themselves.
15. Something to add?
We’d like to thank Jon and everyone behind “Breathing The Core” for the interview. Our new album “Gods Among Us” will be out on October 20th under Underground Symphony Records. You may find all our links here: https://bit.ly/m/animamortua
