Interviews: DEATH PIGEON
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Extreme Metal band DEATH PIGEON from the UK. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?
We were after a name that was unique, something a bit weird, strange, but also slightly humorous hopefully so it would stick in people’s memory. We came up with it during the pandemic when Neil and I were talking about which next steps the band should take. I had made up a list of random words stuck together, we went down that list and combined two other names to make one name. ‘Death' for one style of music we love and ‘Pigeon' is a bird that doesn't give up, doesn't quit, and stays the course.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
It's always been a style that I have loved, extreme metal is so varied, broad, and complex. It has a beautiful expression to it.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, we had worked together in our day jobs and had a great friendship before we started making music.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Oh man it's hard to just pick one,
JD’s would be Cradle of Filth
Neil’s would be Sisters of Mercy
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We love music, it’s an art form that means so much to us. I adore writing short horror and psychological thrillers, and in my head, while writing I can hear music playing, so it's that music I write.
6. Where was your last gig?
We are currently a studio band, but we are going to be putting together a live band in 2025 ready to play some shows.
7. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
We have both played live in various different bands, I have never managed to get rid of the feeling of stage fright in all honesty. But over the years I have learned to turn it into a positive by letting it drive me and not being something I should fear. I’ve always found looking at the audience as I walk out waving, and interacting in some way lessens the fear, the more you show people you aren't afraid (even if you are) the better they will receive you as they will be picking up positive signs from you.
8. What bands have inspired you the most?
Oh wow, so many over the years, to name but some Type of Negative, Cradle of Filth, Sister’s of Mercy, Decapitated, Napalm Death, Van Halen, Hecate Enthroned, Behemoth, and much more recently in the indie community we are a part of Anger Overdose, Shovel Monster, Encircled Throne, Obsculent Brutality, Talwarl, Shannon Darcy, Matt Geiser, and so so many many more
9. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We don't get that many weird requests in all honesty, people get in touch to let us know they like our music which is beautiful to receive. We have had a few people telling us they hate our music also, we’re fine with it as music is so subjective, it's just nice that people want to reach out to us however they feel.
10. What do you think of your fans?
We are nothing without our fans and want to take the opportunity to thank them for everything they do for us and for their constant support. We love you all!
11. What do you think of our site?
It's nice and clean, easy to read and informative
12. Something to add?
We want to thank you for sitting down with us today means a lot to us, and for everything you do for the metal communities. One final thing to say, we have a new EP coming out on October 31 2023 entitled Vol 3: Experiments, it consists of 6 tracks and should make for great Halloween listening.
