Interviews: The Pauline Principle
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band The Pauline Principle. Check out this band and follow them on their INSTAGRAM PROFILE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name?
Andre: I was looking for something that sounds cool but also implicates a meaning I can
relate to. The Pauline Principle is a bible reference: One should never do evil so that good
may come. Without being a religious person I can relate to the principle that the end never
justifies the means.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Nolan: I have been passionate about screaming music ever since I listened to the band
Senses Fail! I found their music video on AOL Music videos back in the day and asked my
Dad if he could pick up a copy at our local FYE store. Fun fact I was the first person in that
store to buy the album "Let It Enfold You" From there I taught myself how to scream and went
to different towns in my area and jammed with locals creating random bands throughout my
youth!
Josh: Metalcore is a genre that speaks to all of us in the band. The combination of melodic
guitars while still having the heavy breakdowns, the heavy screaming vocals with a clean
chorus’ that we can all sing along to, fast driving drums that help hype you up or groove in the
most laid-back parts. There’s something in metalcore for everyone and we’re excited to share
our addition to the genre with everyone.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
This project started from the mastermind Andre, he sought out every member of the band in
the early stages of writing online, and from there we all became official members! We have yet
to meet each other in person as we all live in different parts of the world!
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Nolan: ERRA
Andre: Architects
Tobi: Hollywood Undead
Ivan: KISS
Josh: Between The Buried And Me
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Josh: The world we live in, our love for music, our passion for the genre, and ultimately
because there’s something inside of us literally telling us we have to.
Nolan: Lyrically my words come from a place of familiarity. I wear my heart on my sleeve and
I`m not afraid to open up about personal issues. I`ve seen a lot of adversity in my life from
losing my sister to having friends depart from me to having little to no family life.
6. Where was your last gig?
Josh: As a band with members in multiple countries, we have not been able to play any gigs
yet, but hopefully that will change one day.
7. Where would you like to act?
Josh: The dream is Wacken Open Air Metal Festival, but we would take any show where the
5 of us were able to come together.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Josh: Anyone who shares the band’s excitement and love for music!
9. Whom not?
Josh: The opposite of the above answer. I feel like the world at large is too negative to call out
any individuals and say we would never. We’d prefer to keep an open mind and positive
mindset.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat
that?
Nolan: Stage fright, jitters, anxiety, naming a few things anyone might experience before a
show. For me, it's about practice. If you have confidently practiced and rehearsed your parts,
you will be fine, you just need to get out there and do it!
Josh: Only speaking from personal experience as the drummer, but I’ve never had traditional
stage freight as you would think of it, only stage freight caused by a faulty piece of gear that
has decided to be a problem randomly before the show.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Nolan: ERRA, Periphery, Lorna Shore
Andre: August Burns Red, Architects, Fightstar
Tobi: Thomas Bergersen, Nobuo Uematsu, Yuko Takehara, Keiichi Okabe
Ivan: Aria, The Human Abstract, Testament
Josh: Between The Buried And Me, August Burns Red, Periphery
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nolan: I got done performing with a band in 2010, a person came up to us with a slice of pizza
and asked all the bands to sign it!
Josh: Limited to just interactions for this band, just requesting us to come to their city/country
to play a show.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Nolan: Without our fans, we wouldn't have listeners, and we wouldn't have an audience, we strive
to release music we are proud of and hope the world feels the same way!
14. What do you think of our site?
Nolan: Very user-friendly, we love that you post blogs, interviews, and videos, and stream your
radio station all in one!
15. Something to add?
Nolan: Distance limits us as a band but it doesn't change our pursuit to write and release
music we love and wish to share with the world!
