Interviews About Albums: STONED - Rebirth (2023)

In this new interview, we sat down with the French Metalcore/Hardcore band STONED to ask some questions about their album "Rebirth"

1. What can you say about your new EP “Rebirth”?

“Rebirth” marks a turning point for Stoned. First of all because we’ve decided to take a new musical orientation but also cause that EP marks our first collaboration with the label Music Records.

This EP is heavier and more energic than the last one. We think this EP is more representative of what is Stoned.

2. What is the meaning of the EP name?

As we said, this EP marks the new musical orientation of the band et the beginning of our collaboration with Music Records. So, this is the beginning of a new adventure for Stoned, kind of a rebirth.

3. Which one is the composer of the EP?

Everyone brings their personal touch to the compositions, it’s a team work but usually, it’s David, our guitar player, who brings the first ideas.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

If we have to pick one song, it probably be “Something Else” because it’s the last song we composed and it’s the only song where the drums were entirely created by our new drummer.

5. Is there a special message in “Rebirth”? If there is, what it is?

With this EP, we want to send the message that we are now ready to take this project further, to go to the next step. We want to show to everybody that we are capable of ensuring bigger and better musical events.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

I think we can share the lyrics of our single “Run Baby Run” which speak of domestic violence. When we wrote this song, we decided to share the victim’s point of view and describe the victim’s daily life. Describe how the victim can think without having a judgment on the perpetrator or the situation. We also used the repetition of the verses to signify the daily routine of the situation.

RUN BABY RUN

Run Baby, Run! Go!

The morning, I take a hit
The midday, I take a knee
The evening, a broken nose
At midnight, I fall asleep

The morning, I take a hit
The midday, I take a knee
The evening, a broken nose
At midnight, I fall asleep

All the day, that’s my life

The next day, I wake up
My head hurts, a sore chest
Look my face, see the marks
Take a shirt, to hide them

The next day, I wake up
My head hurts, a sore chest
Look my face, see the marks
Take a shirt, to hide them

One more day, as usual

In my dreams, I see myself
Quit this life and leave
Will I have the courage
To leave him to be free

Run Baby, Run!

No more smile, only tears
No more love, only hate
I’m alone, I’m so sick
I just fear, my feelings
No more smile, only tears
No more love, only hate
I’m alone, I’m so sick
I just fear, my feelings

I need help, to quit this life

This last fight, I will win
Here and now, I will go
It’s the time, to rebuild
This sad life, who’s mine

This last fight, I will win
Here and now, I will go
It’s the time, to rebuild
This sad life, who’s mine

I need me, to make this real

In my dreams, I see myself
Quit this life and leave
Will I have the courage
To leave him to be free

7. Which inspirations have been important for this EP? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

As the band is composed of 5 members, the inspirations are various but the bands that have inspired us the most are Parkway Drive, Trivium, and Black Bomb A. There are also life situations that have inspired us, mostly to write the lyrics. Gilles of the web radio Fréquence Metal has also written a text for us that we have adapted in the song called “Get Crackin’”

8. Something to add?

So, when will there be a concert of Stoned in your city?
