Interviews: Black Angel

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Gothic Rock band Black Angel from the UK. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it did it come out just like that?

It was definitely planned, Matt Vowles the producer of Black Angel is a big fan of the 80s and current staple Gothic rock band The Cult’s, his favorite album is Love by The Cult and there is a track on the end of Side called black angel, definitely one of his favorites, and that’s with the name came from definitely a homage to that band

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Matt comes from 1980s UK Britain and landed in some of the goth clubs in the early 80s, he has been a solid fan of this genre over the years, and after being in Barns for decades writing up the music, he decided to return to this genre, pick up his guitars and bases and drum kits, and start writing, five albums later they are still going strong

3. Each band member's favorite band?

Definitely hard to say each member of the band which would include Corey and Maneesha is very eclectic and wide wide-ranging tastes so it’s hard to put a favorite for any of us, good music is good music.

4. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It nearly always comes from guitar, and riffs, if I can come up with a guitar that I think really works then the rest of the song normally falls around it fairly easily. I find ironically enough when I make time to sit down and write songs it never really works, tends to be a 3 o’clock in the morning when something popped into my head, I am lucky enough to have a studio attached to the house so I can quickly run in there and get any ideas down before I forget them, which also inevitably happens to

5. Where was your last gig?

I’ll ask Egg was in Portland Oregon, and we played the coffin club for the nocturnal fest, this was a couple of months ago, we had a great time, and they were a really great host, I hope we can play the game, in fact, we are actively seeking an American tour and two managers who will partner up with us so we can go out on the road

6. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes, totally, of course, sometimes it’s just nervous excitement, everybody has different ways of dealing with it, I find the best way for me to deal with it is… Red wine!

7. What bands have inspired you the most?

OK, here goes, here’s the list, the sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Siouxsie, and the Banshees, the cult, and the Damned, these are staple Gothic bands from the 80s that inspired me through life so many things, and I have definitely inspired me in music, still my favorites to listen to, nobody comes even close to what these bands did back then and I don’t think ever will

8. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I don’t think I ever asked for it, but we do have some fairly eclectic items on our Murch page that can get printed to order for fans, we had an awesome fan in Germany, who decided to redecorate his house with Black Angel merchandise, which included a Black Angel shower curtain, a black angel shower mat And a full Black Angel bedroom set and duvet

9. What do you think of your fans?

I think our fans are the best in the world, we started out on Bandcamp, and if it wasn’t for people seeking us out or I guess, maybe just stumbling upon us the ball would’ve started not to roll and we would not had the amazing support we’ve had over the last five albums, these are the people that have got us to where we are now, and no doubt these other people that will continue as without them we don’t have the incentive to keep writing music, it’s all about when Matt was much younger in his English clubbing days, and we go to Gothic clubs, listen to the music, and just be totally blown away keep in particular wants to give this feeling to people when they listen to the music that he writes and hopefully maybe one day you can write something that is good enough that gives people this feeling, too, that is definitely the hope

10. Something add?

We have just started writing our sixth album, it’s going to be called Elektra, definitely a more traditional, simplified Gothic record, we normally try and put out at least one album per year so lots to do I’m very excited to start getting new tracks out, thank you very much for taking the time to listen to us.
