Interviews: BLACK DAGGERS
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock/Metal band BLACK DAGGERS from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
Valentine: The band name was actually something that we had struggled with. We wanted something that represented the night, and darkness, something that was easy to remember, and something that had meaning. So Black Daggers was a bit of a nod to Black Sabbath and the daggers part just kind of felt right.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
VV: We really tried to touch on a few different sounds on this record because we don’t really consider ourselves a one-genre band. We’re definitely looking to stretch the idea of rock and metal and add our own spin to it. Our influences are super broad from Hardcore all the way to Classic rock so you might hear elements of all of it in our music because it’s what we were listening to at the time.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
VV: Stan and I go way back, we’ve known each other for about 15 years. We were in a band together on Vancouver Island. Spencer and I met through a Facebook post when I was looking for people to jam with and then Mike also entered the picture the same way.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
VV: Queens of the Stone Age, Mastodon, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Between the Buried and Me, Metallica, Big Wreck
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
VV: This record was a concept album that was written more or less specifically about a fictional character. I did pull from some real-life experiences and inspirations but the story itself is fictional. I tend to write when something inspires me be it another song/band, movie, or event. It’s pretty random. I can’t force it.
6. Where was your last gig?
VV: None yet. Planning on 2024. We all have previously played but this is a new project for us.
7. Where would you like to act?
VV: The Vegas Dome, MSG
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
VV: Metallica, Queens of the Stone Age, Big Wreck
9. Whom not?
VV: We’ll play with anyone!
10. Have Any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
VV: I still get nervous whenever I go on stage. I think you need to try and focus on the task at hand and drown out everything else. Helps me to stare at the lights as opposed to the crowd at first to get into the zone, then I can really get into the show.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
VV: Probably as a guitarist Mark Tremonti but overall likely Queens of the Stone Age and Josh Homme. That band just has style for days.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
VV: My hat.
13. What do you think of your fans?
VV: I love all our fans. I’m happy to talk to anyone who has any questions or just shoot the breeze about music, bands, etc. We’re very active on social media.
14. What do you think of our site?
VV: It’s fantastic! Great features and in-depth discussions on so many awesome bands!
15. Something to add?
VV: Make sure to check us out on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, pretty much everywhere! We appreciate all the love and support and we read every comment and respond to everyone!
