Interviews: Goaten
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal band Goaten from Brazil. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
Francis: We were thinking of something related to goats. So I came up with the idea of using the noun "goat" with the German plural by adding "en" to form the word.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Francis: There's something insanely satisfying about the raw power and intensity of heavy metal. We've always enjoyed bands like Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate, and Slayer, but it's not just music; it's a surge of energy that pumps us up and makes us feel alive.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Francis: Yes, we did. We've known each other for a long time and played together in other bands. That's funny because most of the bands we played when we were teenagers were involved in the Hard Rock scene.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Francis: Mercyful Fate is my favorite band. Daniel Limas finds inspiration in the legendary Van Halen. As for Rafaah Drinkwine, W.A.S.P. holds a special place in his musical heart.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Francis: The biggest inspiration comes from the 80s horror movies and classic writers of cosmic horror and the occult. These elements help us a lot when we’re writing the lyrics and thinking about the arrangements and cover artwork. During the writing process, we are always thinking of something like background music in a scene from a horror movie. In addition to that, I’ve already seen signs that made me sure that the occult is more than just stories.
6. Where was your last gig?
Francis: Our recent gig took place a few weeks ago in Santa Maria, located in the middle of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state in Brazil. It was amazing to share the stage with local bands, and the enthusiastic crowd made it an unforgettable night.
7. Where would you like to act?
Francis: I would mention Rockstadt in Brasov, the historic Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles, and the Metalitalia festival. We'd also love to embark on tours in many countries, taking part in festivals in the countryside. This way, we would have the chance to meet many people and get into the local culture of these places.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Francis: We'd love to share the stage with Candlemass, W.A.S.P., or Stephen Pearcy – that would be awesome! We enjoy playing with many bands of different genres. For instance, last year we shared the stage with Gaerea and a few months back with Skull Fist. In March, we're getting together with Tuff, Crazy Lixx, and Pretty Boy Floyd. Every show is a great experience, and we're super excited about it!
9. Whom not?
Francis: We don't have a specific band in mind, but we wouldn't share the stage with any band spreading discrimination or prejudice.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Francis: Stage fright? Yeah, been there a few times. Back when we were young, we used to drink before hitting the stage, thinking it would help. Turns out, not the best idea. With time, we realized it can affect your performance. Nowadays, we're pretty used to the stage, but hey, it still happens every now and then. The trick? Roll with it, give your best, and enjoy the ride. Doing a few push-ups and jumping jacks before hitting the stage actually helps a bit as well.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Francis: Back in our teenage days, Black Sabbath, Saxon, and Van Halen were like our musical heroes. Twisted Sister and Slayer as well, and their songs played a big part in why we all decided to start a band.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Francis: We've had some interesting fan moments! Once, we got invited to play in a religious ceremony, and another time, a fan asked if we wanted to try ayahuasca. Also, someone asked for an extra shirt since his grandma burned the first one because of the goat print on it. Life in a band is always full of surprises!
13. What do you think of your fans?
Francis: We absolutely love them! One of the coolest things about being in a band and playing in different places is talking to them. Their support and energy make the whole experience awesome, and we appreciate it. Keep rocking with us!
14. What do you think of our site?
Francis: We're really impressed with the way Breathing The Core showcases bands. The site has this knack for creating genuine interest and highlighting the essence of each band, truly valuing their work. We really appreciate how the site makes it easy for fans to check out the band info and feature songs and playlists on streaming platforms.
