Interviews About Albums: WENTSEAT - Dichroic (2023)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Ukrainian Post-Grunge band WENTSEAT to ask questions about their album "Dichroic". 

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

Our first full-length album, Dichroic, was released in the spring of 2023, although the recording was completed in the summer of 2022. When the Russian evil came, everyone forgot about music for a while.

Our album is inspired by the tragic stories of George Orwell, but we filled it with images from our own dystopian world. We hope that it will be able to "open your eyes" to some things and ignite a desire to change the world for the better.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

Dichroic is the property of materials to absorb light in different ways. Thus, the album is an analogy to a dystopian society that sees freedom in the form of light in different ways, depending on the impact of repression.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Our vocalist Bohdan came up with the lyrics and the main idea of the songs, and we all created the music together. Taras, our bassist, mixed and mastered our songs.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

It would be the song "Chains" because it reflects the whole essence of our album. Reflections on the need to preserve freedom, individuality, and critical thinking.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

In our dystopian world, we describe the strict control and manipulation to which citizens are subjected. We explore the topic of privacy, which has almost disappeared in the deceptive web of technological progress. We create a musical landscape built of fear, reflection, and hope for the awakening of consciousness.

We do not want to submit to this pseudo-real world where truth has been replaced by manipulation and false promises. We want to highlight a possible tragic reality and draw attention to the need to preserve freedom, individuality, and critical thinking.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

For example, in the song Dialogue.

"wires permeate our homes like our bodies.

look only straight, as if you do not notice flogging

red color or gray - our friends, as they told us."

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Interest in the dystopian world, and in the aggregate - own feelings and experiences. Important! All songs were written and recorded before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and are not a reflection of the war.
