Interviews: Ashes Reign

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Metal/Rock band Ashes Reign from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name; did you plan it or came out just like that?

The name came about after the band reformed through a few lineup changes. From the ashes something new was born and in that sense, Ashes Reign.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I think we are all pretty diverse in our listening tastes but huge fans of Metal. There is just something about the physical aspects of playing hard rock/metal. It’s the feeling more than anything.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Nope, we met through the building of the band.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

That’s a tough one. As a collective our favorite bands would probably have to be Killswitch Engage, Soilwork, Coheed and Cambria, and Megadeth.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our songwriting is a culmination of influences along with real-world experience.

6. Where was your last gig?

Electric City Music Conference in Scranton, PA

7. Where would you like to perform?

We want to play all over. Every state. Every country that will have us!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Dream lineups would include bands such as Killswitch Engage and Trivium.

9. Whom not?

Honestly, we are huge fans of music festivals in general and don’t mind playing in any mix of genres. We have a pretty diverse catalog so we tailor our sets to the specific show we are playing.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Not so much stage fright but maybe just anxiety in general. I think we’ve come to realize we are all our own worst critics. One thing that has definitely made playing live easier is live streaming. We rehearse twice a week on Twitch and that has just made us a ton tighter. Also - literally the world has access to those streams and the streams are super unforgiving so playing a live venue doesn’t seem as intimidating anymore. Another tip is to bring your focus within yourself and feel the music. Play for the way the music makes you feel and block out the rest. If you feel the music, it will project out to the audience.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

It’s a mixed bag for us overall but me, Vinny, as the primary songwriter would have to say bands such as Megadeth and Metallica in my early years. I believe it can still be heard in what we do today but we have grown to where our own sound has developed through the mix of influences.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

An encore 😂

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans and appreciate their support through the self-produced stages of the band early on. We are glad to have a lot of them still with us and we are excited to have them along for the ride as we start to release our first songs through our label Affiant Records. With their support and guidance, we have really been able to level up and we can’t wait to have the album released!

We love the site and think you all do wonderful work for the scene. It really helps to support new music overall and we appreciate you!
