Interviews: Cell Games
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Nu-Metal band Cell Games from Ireland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or did it just come out like that?
Maximillion took it from a story arc in the anime, Dragonball Z because he liked the sound of it. If you're a fan of the show it's a nice little Easter egg and if not it still sounds cool.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We all grew up with nu metal so it's kind of what naturally comes out when we try to play something heavy. They can have a bit of a stigma attached but it's such a broad heading that there's always something in there you can latch on to.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Myself (Tristan) and Maximillion had played a handful of cover gigs together and that was the initial seed of the band. Deb used to play with someone I play in another band with and absolutely nailed her audition and Tonči found us on Facebook at the same time we found him on a different ad.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Tristan loves the Canadian band, TWRP. Deb's favorite band is probably Tool. Maximillion is big into Faith No More and Tonči absolutely loves Linkin Park.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Anything we hear anywhere can spur us on to create something, even if it ends up not sounding remotely like that initial spark.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was in a pub in a tiny little town in Co. Cavan. Absolutely insane crowd there giving it their all for every band playing.
7. Where would you like to play?
We'd like to expand a bit within Dublin and Ireland more generally. If we could get over to the UK that would be a great next step for us.
8. Who would you like to support?
The dream is to open for any of the original nu metal heavyweights that are still on the go but there are so many bands doing great things in metal that we'd love to support. Even on a local level!
9. Who not?
We're pretty open to playing with anyone once they're not into anything shady or harmful.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
There's always a little bit of stage fright before you hit the first note of the first song of the set but you have to embrace it and use the adrenaline you get from it.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
We've all been really into RHCP at some stage. Strangely enough, we all enjoy Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds too. In terms of music that's more like what we play, we're all very into the first few Linkin Park albums and the whole vibe of System Of A Down.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Our fans have all been pretty cool so far so we haven't had any wild requests… yet!
13. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are great. They've fully embraced the absurdity of what we're like live.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's a great spot to hear about what's going on in music. Especially music you mightn't necessarily find out about elsewhere.
15. Something to add?
We're really excited to see what people think of Jailbreak - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIejA0Eo0KA. It's always a fun part of our gigs and we hope that comes across in the single and people stick around to see what we do next. Keep in touch at https://facebook.com/CellGamesBand
