Interviews: Osmium
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band Osmium from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
I got the idea about a year before Osmium began. I was playing guitar in a punk/metal band that needed a name. I googled "What is the heaviest metal element?" to which Osmium was the answer. The band I was in wasn't quite heavy enough for that title so I kept it in my back pocket until meeting the members of what became Osmium.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I've always loved metal. Toxicity and Iowa were my introduction to the genre back in the early 2000s. Shortly after, I picked up a guitar and started teaching myself. I took some vocal lessons and started playing in bands by age 14 and never looked back.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Surprisingly, no. We've all met through mutual connections within the music scene in San Diego.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Dread - Darko US
Mattie - Korn
"Death Grips when I'm in trouble at work. Baby Metal when I'm happy tho"
Mick
Dhruv - Periphery
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Life. Sometimes happy fun jam sessions lead to bouncy riffs and breakdowns. Sometimes a bout of depression leads to brooding guitars and eerie soundscapes. Sometimes frustration with society leads to angsty lyrics. We have a song for every mood.
6. Where was your last gig?
Brick By Brick in San Diego, CA
7. Where would you like to act?
We would like to do another West Coast tour and then go as far as the music will take us.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
It would be really cool to see what kind of insanity we could put together with Justin Bonitz. He just has such a creative mind and a wild vocal range.
9. Whom not?
Can't think of anyone.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
I get stage fright before I step on stage every single time. That anxiety and excitement are what drive my performance. That being said, to keep it at a manageable level, rehearse rehearse rehearse. If you play everything how you want it at rehearsal, you'll do it the same way on stage. Rehearse with the full light show, stage antics, everything. You should be sweaty after rehearsal just like after a show.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
God, I could go 100 ways with this answer. We all listen to such a wide variety of music. Every Time I Die for their storytelling and chaotic energy. Slipknot's blend of aggression and catchy choruses. Between The Buried And Me for the plethora of styles they incorporate at virtuoso levels. And then I could name any number of "core" bands for the breakdowns.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I don't think we've had many strange requests, other than people asking us to hold a piece of merch for them only for them to never actually buy it haha.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We love our fans. They rock the merch, stream our music, and bring their friends out to shows. We've even got pictures from fans of our stickers all over the globe.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's a great resource for metalheads to keep on the cutting edge of new music.
15. Something to add?
Thanks for taking the time to interview us! We've got loads of new music coming out thru early 2024. Stay tuned at OsmiumBand.com
