Interviews: Skull Servant

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Psychedelic Doom Metal band Skull Servant from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

We are fans of the card game Yu-Gi-Oh! and one of the classic cards is called Skull Servant. We thought that sounded pretty metal!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We are all huge doom and stoner metal fans, and as we explored different genres together, that’s what we kept coming back to as songwriters and musicians.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Noah and Calvin have been playing together in various bands since 2015, and Calvin has been playing in the band SPREADLOVES with Ryland since 2021.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Calvin’s favorite band is The Sword. Noah’s favorite band is Electric Wizard. Ryland’s favorite band is Queens of the Stone Age.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Calvin writes most of the songs about whatever horror or occult concept has gripped his mind in that moment, with a touch of personal emotion mixed in. Also, drugs.

6. Where was your last gig?

The Cave in Chapel Hill, NC.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to play in Europe and South America, we have only played in North America at this point.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We are fans of the band Mephistofeles and would love to collaborate with them, as well as Black Spell and Astral Pigs.

9. Whom not?

We are excited to collaborate with any band we dig!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

We’ve all experienced some intense stage fright throughout our musical careers, and the best remedy is to just play as many shows as you can until they don’t scare you anymore. Push through the fear, you’ve got this!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Noah has been most inspired by Metallica. Calvin has been most inspired by Evildead. Ryland has been most inspired by Muse.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Probably one fan who asked us for our home address!

13. What do you think of your fans?

We are huge fans of them! They make all our hard work worth it. We even had a fan play drums for us once, and make remixes of our songs.

14. What do you think of our site?

Breathing the Core is a fantastic website, and we love how they even dive into the creation of album art. They also have very interesting interviews.
