Track By Tracks: Monachopsis - As the Dreamer (2023)

1. A CHANCE TO LIVE AGAIN:

This winding epic is everything we wanted to showcase about Monachopsis distilled into one track. Musically it covers every ground – technical complexity, heavy riffing, intricate composition and musicianship. Lyrically it was written in a very dark place; dealing with themes of mental illness, reincarnation and loss of self. It’s a dense, meandering multi-layered track and we couldn’t be happier with it.

2.VESSEL:

Vessel is the shorter, punchier track on the record. It’s in and out in quick succession it has definitely become a favourite live. Lyrically it’s a more straightforward affair than the other tracks on the record. It centres around the idea of an ancient deity being trapped in a jar and how absolutely infuriating that would actually be.

3. CONSTELLATION SPEECH:

This one is a technical whirlwind and probably our most difficult song to play. We were trying to showcase the techy-er, more progressive and neo-classical elements of our sound. Lyrically it’s an exploration of humanity's long-standing relationship with the stars and the strange ways various historical figures have interpreted the heavens to implement bizarre and often lethal socio-political policies.

4. AS THE DREAMER:

The title track is the heaviest track we’ve done to date. It combines the complex riffing one would expect from us and combines it with shredding solos, dual leads and hard-hitting breakdowns. Lyrically it deals with themes of insomnia, sleep paralysis, ethereal spectres and night terrors.
