Interviews About Albums: OCEAN OF ANOTHER - One Day This Pain Will Subside (2024)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Croatian Metalcore band OCEAN OF ANOTHER to ask questions about their album "One Day This Pain Will Subside".
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
We are very excited to see it finally being released. We have been a band
for a little over a year and we spent that time writing and releasing songs
trying to find our own identity we feel that with this EP we have
managed to do so in glorious fashion.
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
We sing a lot about mental health, past trauma, and hidden pains we all
carry and with the EP name, we wanted to signify that if you work to resolve
those issues one day that pain will subside, and it will become smaller and
it’s power over you will diminish.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
I know it might be hard to believe but this was a team effort. We wrote
everything together. We even produced everything by ourselves, I must say
it is quite refreshing to be able to have everyone pitching in. It makes the
process smoother and in the end, gives you a new perspective on things
making the songs sound unique.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
If I had to pick one I would pick Shift+DEL that's my current favorite, it used
to be I am but a Memory but Shift+DEL really has grown on me. It has
great vocal melodies that I really love singing, nasty breakdown and I am
really happy with the lyrics. Also, it was inspired by the short horror film
''Curve'' and I am proud that we kinda gave it a shoutout with this song as it
is one of the best short films I ever saw. Go check it out!
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?
One Day This Pain Will Subside takes listeners on a journey of self-discovery. Lyrically, the songs deal with the pain, loneliness, and trauma of the human condition. The band opens up about their deepest wounds and
hurts to connect with the audience, emphasizing that everyone feels pain
and that, in that pain, no one is alone.
Ultimately, the band aims to help people connect with and discover their
true selves.
In a world where capitalism has put a price on everything, including
revolution, the band seeks to show that the final act of rebellion is the act of
self-discovery. Knowing oneself prevents others from becoming one's
master.
The agenda behind this EP can be summarized in lyrics from Terraform ‘’
reclaim your humanity from the depths of banality/don’t let your fear of
death plunge you into apathy’’
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
I absolutely love these lyrics from ‘’Embrace the Darkness’’ as they
perfectly encapsulate what we are about as a band:
‘’Embrace the darkness in your heart
Don’t let it tear you apart
Remember that you have the power to grow
Despite the weight of it all‘’
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like
musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
Musically we were really inspired by The Death of Peace of Mind by Bad
Omens although I am not sure if that’s obvious just from listening to the
EP also ‘’Scoring the End of the World‘’ by Motionless in White was an
album that impacted us during the writing process.
Inspirations for the songs are mostly our own experiences with the themes
we write about although at times we can draw inspiration from different art
forms such as a short film for ‘’Shift+DEL‘’ or different socio-political
discussions that inspired ‘’Terraform‘’
8. Something to add?
Become a drop in the Ocean Of Another. Do not close yourself off from the
human connection and realize that we are all alone together and that only
by connecting with one another can we evolve and grow.
