Interviews: CHROMA
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock band CHROMA from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
The band name comes from the Latin word CHROMA which means “intensity of light and colour”, which we feel is a good reflection of us and our live show.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We’ve never really chosen the genre, we just write what comes naturally. Writing music that is heavy and loud definitely helps us express what we want to express though.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We knew each other in varying capacities. Katie and Zac didn’t know each other at all before the band formed, however, Bev is the catalyst. He knew both of us and brought us together.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
We all listen to a variety of different music, which creates an interesting melting pot when we write our music. There are too many amazing artists to choose from!
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Writing songs helps us process a lot of things, it really is a medicine. Katie loves writing about things that piss her off. Katie is a big fan of Elliot Smith, she’s inspired massively by the honesty in his songwriting.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was out in Groningen at the Eurosonic Festival, one day after our headline show at London’s Signature Brew for Radio X’s John Kennedy. It's always really lovely to see so many people who come out to support us, wherever we are in the world.
7. Where would you like to act?
The dream is to do a European Tour at some point. Glastonbury Festival (UK) would be a dream come true too.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We’re honestly happy to play shows with most artists. We love and respect a lot of people who make our favourite music and are always up for playing shows.
9. Whom not?
There are only several artists that we wouldn’t perform with. Those whom we would choose not to perform with would be those whose views or ideals don’t align with ours. It’s incredibly important to us to stand up for what we think is right and open up conversations with those who are willing to challenge views in an attempt to be as progressive as possible.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Katie - “I’m an anxious mess. Just know that it always gets easier. I get a massive adrenaline buzz from performing. You’ve got to try and have fun with it!”
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Queens of the Stone Age, The Gossip, Idles and the Foo Fighters.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We’ve had lots of fans give us things. When we were in South Korea, a lovely fan bought us Makgeolli. It was delicious but we were very drunk.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We love our fans. They're always a lot of fun.
14. What do you think of our site?
We think it’s great! Journalists and reviewers play an integral part in providing fans with an insight into their favourite artists and allowing for their music to grow.
15. Something to add?
Our debut album “Ask For Angela” is out now on Alcopop! Records, are available on 12” Valley Sky Blue vinyl.
