Interviews: GREH
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Blackened Death Metal/Death Metal/Doom Metal band GREH from Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
The band name Greh is taken from my Macedonian origin, where I used to live as a teenager. It is pronounced as “gr-e-hH”. It comes from the Slavic people there from their religious context, and it means “sin”. All those who are orthodox believers are also superstitious and fear the word. This means that Greh is a transgression against God’s law! It is about the awe of self-determination.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Stylistically we play black and deth with elements of doom. The whole thing is spiced up with groove and dissonance. It's just a musical landscape or vibe that best describes my feelings and brings out the lyrics.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We didn't know each other beforehand. We got to know each other reliably and they really liked my idea of founding GREH. In the meantime, we have matured into a band and have become good friends.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Monne (drums): Wiegedood, The way of a freedom
Martin (vocals): Behemoth, Dom Zły
Gero (guitar): Hexis, Heriot, Nails, Mantar
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I look for bands with a certain vibe that is driving and very intense. I listen to this band for several days straight. After that, I often have an idea and compose a new song. It works quite well and the band really likes the new compositions.
6. Where was your last gig?
The last concert was in December 2023 in Cologne. It was sold out and the visitors had a hell of a good time. It was a good party. Gladly again!
7. Where would you like to act?
We would like to play in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Northern France because we have heard that there are a lot of metal fans there as well. And it would be great to play a hell of a show there too, wouldn't it?
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Maybe with the band DECAPITATED because musically they would be a good mix.
9. Whom not?
All artists or bands that have discriminatory content, and maybe not pop artists.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
We always have stage fright. It will never go away. It's important to learn how to deal with it. Good preparation of the set helps. Warming up before the performance also takes away the feeling of anxiety. And after the first song it's usually completely gone and the good party starts.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
I get inspiration from a lot of bands, it's not easy to list. Here is a small list to give you an idea: Hexis, Heriot, Guyod, AHAB, Nails, Mantar, Abest, Thou, Ophis, Konvent, Conan, YOB, High On Fire, Predatory Void.
They are all very enchanting and you can learn a lot from them.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We actually get a lot of letters from fans. We are very happy about this because we appreciate it. Often they are thank-you notes and we are also surprised when they write us comprehensive feedback on individual songs. This feedback is very valuable for us.
13. What do you think of your fans?
To be honest, I never thought there was a music scene where the fans are so supportive of a band that is trying to make a name for itself. In metal, the fans are actually very appreciative and very loyal. So thank you all out there for being our loyal companions.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's unbelievable when I imagine how much time you invest in your portal to represent the bands appropriately. You get a lot of respect for that. I also think it's great that you pay attention to reader feedback and always provide appropriate content. Thank you for being here - that means a lot to us!
15. Something to add?
Thank you for your exciting questions, I hope your readers will enjoy the interview. A little reminder: support concerts, because only together can we continue to build the underground scene!
