Interviews: Punks Of The Empire
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal/Thrash Metal band Punks Of The Empire from Iceland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
I was in Budapest in early 2000 and found a T-shirt with Lenin with a mohawk and loved it and thought that would
be an awesome name for a band many years later I got to use it but didn’t want to totally rip it off those guys.
Coolest t-shirt ever.. Still own mine and still play gigs in it!!!.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I’ve always loved metal and Magni started his career in a grunge band so when we got together we
automatically wrote Why We’re Empy together and that's why we’re a thrash metal outfit
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We have been in the same town for years but never known each other until we started working together.
4. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Life, feelings, and other musicians. We bounce ideas of each other and mix different styles and passions for
music
Breathing The Core Zine
5. Where was your last gig?
Punks have not yet played live... This started as a studio side project, Magni is always on the road playing 100 -
120 gigs per year and I’m busy in my main band Changer so we are looking forward to hitting the stage with
Punks of the Empire!
6. Where would you like to act?
Where ever We don’t care .. we just want to share this music
7. Whom would you like to feature with?
Do you mean share stage? Nah doesn’t matter
8. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Yeah, I started playing very young and I’ve never considered myself to be a good player. I always write songs that
challenge me to step up .. so when I’m on stage I’m always worrying that I could fuck shit up. I try to
concentrate on practicing my setlist daily. I’m pretty tough on myself though. If you are certain that you wanna be
on stage don’t give up remember why you’re up on stage and use it. This is where you are supposed to be.
Enjoy it and embrace it. Fuckups on stage are not the end of the world.. ;)
9. What bands have inspired you the most?
I don’t know... right now I’d say Swedish Death or Thrash metal Tampa Bay Thrash metal but I am mostly
listening to old Deathmetal bands that are reinventing themself.
We used so much from so many musicians from Deathmetal to Pop while working on this album.
10. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
An autograph... doesn’t get weirder!
11. What do you think of your fans?
I’d like to meet them all over the world. I’ve got to know pretty fantastic people through music
12. What do you think of our site?
It looks amazing love this behind-the-track stuff
13. Something to add?
Thank you Breathing The Core Zine I really hope you enjoy listening to Gehenna
