Interviews: Sea Of Consciousness
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Death Metal/Technical Death Metal band Sea Of Consciousness from the Netherlands. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
Our first song was named ‘’Sea of Consciousness’’ and later István came up with the genius idea to name ourselves that.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I think that the genre chooses you and not the other way around. We just play what we come up with and have a lot of fun in the process.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Daniel (guitarist) and István (drummer) have been playing together since 2014 in the band ‘’Inferus Dei’’ before we broke up the project in 2019 and started Sea of Consciousness together. We had a difficult time finding the other fitting band members and had to make a lot of line-up changes in the process. After some time, we finally found Bionda (vocalist) in 2022 and started to finalize the songs together. Then Stefan (guitar) and Jeroen (bass) joined forces in 2023 and we finally recorded our debut album in the same year.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Daniel: Dissection
István: Arch Enemy
Bionda: Orbit Culture
Stefan: Avenged Sevenfold
Jeroen: Benighted
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The struggle of life and trauma in general inspires us to write songs about it. This is fueled by a huge passion for music.
6. Where was your last gig?
The 12th of January in Musicon, The Hague.
7. Where would you like to act?
Wherever we can.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Only serious and professional artists can learn from it.
9. Whom not?
Not serious artists.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Jeroen had his first gig with us. He was sweating a lot but he remembered his training and came back alive. The greatest tip is to practice a lot and have loving band members who guide you through the process. Also just focus on the music and you will be fine.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
There are too many bands that inspire us in our songwriting. It ranges from metal, ska, jazz, blues, hip-hop, etc. But if I had to say a band, I think it would be Death and/or Dissection.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
A crossdresser emailed us to ask us for our autographs because he collects them. Somehow he thought it was relevant information to say he was a crossdresser.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We are in the beginning, so we don’t have a fanbase yet. We hope to have it one day.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's amazing what you are trying to do for new artists like us. The amount of exposure and promotion for bands is a very important factor in giving new bands like us a chance.
15. Something to add?
Thank you so much for your interest in us!
