Interviews: Disenchanted

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band, Disenchanted, from Turkey. Check out the interview and follow the project on his FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name; did you plan it or come out just like that?

It is not something that we planned at all; it just came out one day when Canberk (co-founder/guitar player), who is a teacher, was giving a lecture and he saw a video on YouTube entitled “Disenchanted” and liked the word. He pitched it to the rest of the band and we all said “OK!”

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

To be honest, there is not a specific genre that we put ourselves in. We are just trying to embrace the roots of metal music; however, we try to modernize the materials that we create or the ones that we already have in hand.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Canberk and Selim (the other co-founder/singer) knew each other from college. Ali, Güven and Kerem joined later on. We actually met each other via an app called Vampr, which is like a tinder for musicians.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Selim: Architects

Canberk: Volbeat

Ali: Judas Priest

Güven: Spiritbox

Kerem: Genesys

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Daily life experiences, personal stuff (relationships/traumas), politics, etc. And the musicians that we get inspired by!

6. Where was your last gig?

It was our homeland, Istanbul

7. Where would you like to act?

Anywhere that we can play our music to people! But the dream place is the Royal Albert Hall in London! You gotta dream big, right?!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Everyone in the band actually has a different opinion on that! For Selim and Güven it’s Daniel Tompkins and Courtney LaPlante For Canberk it’s Michael Poulsen and Andreas Kisser For Ali it’s Dave Mustaine and Rob Halford For Kerem it’s Neil Peart

9. Whom not?

As a modern band, we are open to any kind of collaboration, so there is no one we wouldn’t like to feature with.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Of course! Especially when it’s your first show, you get those sweaty palms, trembling knees, and all that! Not that we are experts or anything, but keeping yourself occupied with something that you like before the show reduces the stress level. In addition, realizing that all these people are there to listen to some good music and have some fun, and you are the supplier is the key. So, just focus on playing your music to new potential fans and you also have some fun!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Actually, we all grew up listening to the pioneers of metal music like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, Megadeth, and all that. In fact, Canberk and Selim come from a thrash metal background! So, these are obviously the main reasons why we are playing metal music. But we get our inspiration from bands that play more modern genres like Volbeat, Invent Animate, Architects, Parkway Drive, Tesseract, Spiritbox,

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

As DISENCHANTED, we have not been around for too long yet, but Selim had an incident during his time in his former band. A very drunk guy invited the band to his house after one of their shows and tried to force them to stay there instead of at their hotel! Thankfully, they were able to turn him down respectfully, and made it back home safely! Canberk is still waiting for that magical moment when he will be asked something special!

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are crazy! We love them!

14. What do you think of our site?

We absolutely love Breathing the Core! Selim has actually been following your website since after you guys did that interview years ago with his former band Sails of Serenity, and we are still big fans.

15. Something to add?

This is very special for us as this is our first official interview as a new band, so huge thanks to Breathing the Core. And even a bigger thank you to the fans for their support!
