Interviews: Priest
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the 80s EBM band, Priest, from Sweden. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
I woke up after an eventful night in Berlin back in 2011 and just had the name ”Priest” stuck in my mind for a synth-based project. A few years later I decided to make reality of it.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I always wanted to have a synthpop band, but it never really happened since I played in metal and indie pop bands before. Except for a short run as a vocalist in the Swedish band Vision Talk.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes. I have known the former singer and one of the current keyboardists for a long before. I also knew the producer, Simon Söderberg, since before. Other members have joined later on.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Salt: Frank Zappa
Sulphur: Skinny Puppy
Mercury: J. S. Bach
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
For Priest, it’s sci-fi mixed with real-life events. Things that concern or touch me put on a Blade Runner backdrop.
6. Where was your last gig?
In Las Vegas. We played the Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood the other day which was very nice.
7. Where would you like to act?
I’m not exactly sure what you mean, but I would like to act in a good tactical stealth movie. If you mean to perform on stage; would be fun to play at a big festival like Coachella.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Brian Eno
9. Whom not?
I don’t know, I’m very open-minded.. I don’t wanna close any doors.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Yeah, especially in the beginning. Just keep doing it over and over and it fades a bit hopefully.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Front 242, Orbital and The Prodigy
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
One lady wanted our former singer to babysit her kid so she could go to a concert - I found that pretty weird.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Without our fans we would be nothing - we’re grateful every day for their support!
14. What do you think of our site?
It’s a great website with great interviews, with great bands. Thank you for having us!
15. Something you'd like to add?
Yes, our brand new album ’Dark Pulse’ is out on May 31st on all platforms and in record stores. You can pre-order it now on Amazon and other places.
If you’re in Sweden, we have a release party in Linköping on May 17th.
