Interviews: BRAIN PAIN
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Rock/Grunge band BRAIN PAIN from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?
We were brainstorming and playing around with some ideas such as Banana Brain, and Banana Pain... We left the Banana out.
It sounded instantly right, describing what we strive to do: bring out our headaches, our illnesses, and problems.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We call it HEAVY GREGGAE, which is a combination of grunge and reggae.
It was the right blend of everyone's roots. Just right in terms of heaviness; a captivating combination of rhythmic ideas.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Daniele and Tony have known each other since their school days and then came Giorgio to fill the drum void.
Alex was the perfect squaring for our circle of sound.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Daniele - ACDC
Antonio - System Of A Down
Alex - Led Zeppelin
Giorgio - Tool
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Lyrics-wise it's kind of mystical, the words come out while we give them a light path to follow.
The music on the other hand comes from a long research between all members. Like having 4 chefs working on the same recipe - each of them adding something to the final dish...
6. Where was your last gig?
It was a beautiful musical event, held annually in memory of the late Agostino Carbognin, a well-known bluesman who once roamed our same places.
Lots of bands, jam sessions, and big smiles. It's always a joy for us to play there.
7. Where would you like to act?
Hopefully the Madison Square Garden. Realistically, starting to enter the festival scene here in the region would be awesome!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Surely FSM, a group of friends from Dro (Trentino), and A Forest Mighty Black, the heaviest stoner band in Veneto.
9. Whom not?
Gutalax, our immune systems are just not ready yet.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
We all have those moments and I guess we'll always have them.
A tip we can give you is just to survive the first 2 songs - it's all downhill from there.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Our inspiration comes from Alice in Chains, Faith No More, System of a Down, and Tool.
Then there are all the personal influences that we can bring to the table when writing something. It's a great rice salad.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I did not really ask but just did it out of their own free will, they threw a chair at the singer as a sign of excitement during a breakdown.
No singer was hurt, he caught it mid-air and threw it back happily.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They're the best, they supported us even at the worst gigs, and they're loyal too, we see people coming at every show in the season.
We fucking love them, no doubt about it.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's awesome, really easy to read through and the graphics are fire!
A website that works right is not something to underestimate. They often DO NOT WORK (e.g. Poste Italiane)
15. Something to add?
Even if we do it kinda funny our message is serious, as we try to shed the light on the problems of our generation.
Low wages, unaffordable cost of life, high rents, wars...
Our future is getting eroded away, and we want to give a voice to who will be left after the current governing generation is gone.
All the while we laugh, 'cause fun is the greatest antidote to hopelessness.
Stay green, chefs.
