Interviews: Far From Refuge
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band Far From Refuge from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or did it just come out like that?
We named ourselves after the album ‘Far From Refuge’ from the incredible post-rock band God Is An Astronaut.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
This type of music comes to us naturally! We have such a wide range of influences from metal and other music which all help formulate Far From Refuge’s sound.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We did not! Forming a band can be a bit of a mission, and it took a while to bring everyone together! There was a lot of scrolling through websites and forums, but now it feels like we've known each other all our lives!
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Joél - InMe
Matt - TesseracT
Jules - Lorna Shore
Suran - Wintersun
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Ideas come from anywhere really. We’re inspired by modern life and the things we go through, memories, the future, games, sci-fi, fantasy, and everything in between.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was at the Strawberry Fair in Cambridge last year. It's an incredible community-led event that happens every year and we were so excited to share our music with so many people.
7. Where would you like to play?
We love playing anywhere! It could be your living room or the biggest festivals in the world, we're going to have a great time regardless!
8. Who would you like to support?
One of the metalcore greats like Killswitch Engage or Parkway Drive would be amazing.
9. Who not?
We’re not about to start beef with other bands here. You'd have to be a pretty unfavorable group of people for us not to want to play a show with you!
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
It’s rare not to feel some nerves, but you learn how to turn that nervousness into excitement over time. When we’re on stage we actually feel like we belong and that it’s only right that we are there. Just gotta throw yourself into the music, get into the moment, and have fun!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Parkway Drive, TesseracT, A Day To Remember, Katatonia, In Flames and many more
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We're fortunate enough to have incredible fans. Apart from maybe when Suran was asked to be a storyteller to kids, we haven't had any really weird requests just yet
13. What do you think of your fans?
Anyone that supports independent music is amazing and we can't thank them enough!
14. What do you think of our site?
It's wonderful and important to have such a resource and outlet for our genre.
