Interviews: Reflection Of Flesh
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Brutal Metal band Reflection Of Flesh from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?
The band name came from the means to realize that self-reflection is absolutely necessary for a
meaningful and fulfilled life. Whether you’re staring into a mirror, a cup of coffee, a puddle...seeing the
pile of flesh and bones that is you. All we are, a Reflection of Flesh.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Each of us didn’t start playing in the metal genre. We all started from bands focusing on jamming, pop
punk, alternative, and older rock songs. Influences changed along our individual ways to lead us to this
point. Nowadays, the genre has become us, and it excites us. It challenges us.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
When Reflection of Flesh started, a handful of the original members had either been in projects
together or played together. Phil and Chris were in a band together prior to the band. Now, we’ve gone
from a 5-piece band to a 4-piece band, to the current 3-piece band that we are now.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
There are almost too many to name, but for example, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Led Zeppelin,
Dream Theater, Motorhead, Mercyful Fate, and Rush. Literally, too many to list them all.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our friends and family help us be inspired to create the music we do. Each of us inspires each other
when we’re in the room with each other every day. Also, personal experiences that have shaped us to
write the way we do (death, music, love, etc.)
6. Where was your last gig?
The Annex at The Red Zone in Madison, WI, with Reaping Asmodaea, Seven Cities Dead, Fractal
Aura, and Lost for Words.
7. Where would you like to act?
Everywhere, all over the world, where original music is truly appreciated. Places where we’re wanted,
and where we’re not wanted.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Many of the larger bands that are on the Extreme Management roster or some of our influences (i.e.
Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Suffocation).
9. Whom not?
We try not to stomp on anyone’s toes, but there are a couple of bands we prefer not to do business
with. We don’t have to individually discuss them though.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
More or less we get butterflies before we play, however, it gets easier to manage the more you play.
Usually, it’s right when our intro sample kicks in, and then the adrenaline takes over. There is nothing
wrong with being nervous playing live. It shows you actually care about the music you play, and how
well you perform. You should focus on those. You can turn around to your bandmates once in a while, and play with your eyes closed. Just play your songs. Fear is the other person’s problem. If you’re not
nervous before you play, is your heart really in it? It’ll flutter when it is into it.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Again, too many to list all of them. But some examples are Metallica, Megadeth, Killswitch Engage,
Lamb of God, Dream Theater, Rush, Opeth, and so many others!
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We really don’t have too many weird fan stories; we do have crazy near-death experiences on the
road. But we guess that just being recognized out in the real world by a fan or being asked to take a photo
by a stranger due to our music.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We absolutely adore our “Flesh” heads. We have always tried to be the most professional yet funniest
group of guys around. Levity is a much-needed thing. They may or may not know it, but everyone that
has shown support over the years truly is family to us. We love our fans and we hope we can keep
creating a positive and awesome vibe for everyone to enjoy.
14. What do you think of our site?
We love your website and page! It’s a fantastic avenue to catch up with great music news and bands.
The list of previous bands that have been covered is impressive, to say the least. It will be nice for us to
be added to that list!
15. Something to add?
Check out our new album “We Are Legion” which hit all digital streaming platforms on May 10th,
2024! We will be releasing playthroughs of the title track on the album. In addition to adding new
merchandise, we plan on gigging hard on this new album so stay tuned for a show near you. In the
meantime, we’ll be at Da Bar, in West Allis, WI, on June 8th and that’s going to be a great show. A show
in our area on a weekend for a change!
We thank you for the opportunity for the interview. We greatly appreciate it. Until next time, keep it
metal! Cheers!
